Once celebrated as the scruffy, lovable comic who won NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2007, Jon Reep is now making headlines for a deeply disturbing reason.
The 53-year-old comedian was arrested in North Carolina on multiple child pornography charges, TMZ has learned, sending shockwaves through the comedy world and beyond.
The Arrest
On Friday, Sept. 5, Reep was taken into custody by the Hickory Police Department after a Catawba County grand jury indicted him on:
- 1 count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor
- 9 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor
All of the charges are tied to child sexual abuse material — a revelation that has left many of his fans stunned and horrified.
Police say Reep was arrested just after noon and booked into the Catawba County Detention Facility. His bond was set at $260,000.
A mugshot taken at the time of his arrest shows him wearing a gray T-shirt and appearing visibly displeased with the situation.
How the Investigation Began
According to Hickory PD, the investigation started in April 2025 when the department received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The tip indicated that an online account allegedly linked to Reep was associated with child sexual abuse material.
- On April 15, the case was logged in police records under “Obscene Material/Pornography – Exploit Children.”
- Investigators obtained a search warrant for the IP address in question.
- Electronic devices were seized from the location.
That evidence ultimately led to the grand jury indictment handed down earlier this week.
Fallout: Comedy Show Canceled
The arrest had an immediate ripple effect on Reep’s career.
He was scheduled to perform Friday night at a comedy show in Goldsboro, North Carolina, but the appearance was abruptly canceled following the news.
The Paramount Theatre in Goldsboro issued a statement to TMZ, clarifying that Reep wasn’t booked directly by the venue but by a third-party promoter:
“We did not book Jon Reep. Our theatre was rented by a third-party producer who has booked other comedians and musical acts with us. We have just learned of Mr. Reep’s situation, and we immediately contacted the producer for clarification. We are forced to cancel tonight’s performance and together we will determine if there is to be a rescheduled date. Existing ticket holders will be given the opportunity to retain their tickets for a possible future date, or they will be issued a refund.”
For now, it’s unclear how many other bookings Reep may have on his calendar — but given the seriousness of the charges, it’s likely his tour schedule will be derailed indefinitely.

Who Is Jon Reep?
Before his arrest, Jon Reep was best known as a stand-up comedian and actor with a career spanning nearly two decades.
- He won NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2007, which launched him into the national spotlight.
- He landed a recurring role on HBO’s cult comedy Eastbound & Down, playing Kenny Powers’ brother-in-law.
- He appeared in several high-profile TV commercials, including Dodge Ram’s now-famous “That thing got a Hemi?” ad campaign.
Reep built a reputation as a Southern everyman comic, often performing with his signature beard and small-town charm.
But now, that career is overshadowed by the disturbing allegations tied to child pornography.
Community Shock
Fans and fellow comedians reacted with disbelief to the arrest.
“Not Jon Reep… this is insane,” one stunned fan tweeted.
Another wrote: “I saw him live in 2019. Never would’ve imagined this. Heartbreaking if true.”
The comedy world has seen its share of scandals, but few involving charges as serious as these.
Legal Troubles Ahead
Reep is facing 10 felony charges in total. Under North Carolina law:
- Second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor can carry several years in prison.
- Third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor also comes with potential prison time and hefty fines.
If convicted, Reep could face a lengthy prison sentence, permanent sex offender registration, and the collapse of his entertainment career.
At press time, his legal team has not issued a public statement.
Silence From Reep’s Camp
TMZ reached out to a representative for Reep, but no response has been given.
For now, the comedian remains behind bars unless bond is posted. His next court appearance has not yet been publicly announced.
From Laughter to Legal Scandal
It’s a shocking downfall for a performer once beloved for his quick wit and relatable Southern humor.
Jon Reep made audiences laugh on national television, in comedy clubs across the country, and on the big screen — but today, the headlines about him are grim.
As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: this case is far from over, and the charges against Reep are among the most serious any entertainer can face.
