Misterio Sr. made his wrestling debut in January 1976 and quickly rose to prominence as one of the top stars in the Mexican wrestling scene. To help his nephew carve his own path in the wrestling world, Díaz added “Sr.” to his stage name, allowing Rey Mysterio to establish his unique legacy. The two shared memorable moments in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, including winning the WWA Tag Team Championships together.
