Rapper Lil Durk’s legal battles are far from over. Born Durk Derrick Banks, the Chicago artist has remained in custody since October 2024, following an arrest tied to an alleged murder-for-hire plot.
⚖️ The Allegations
Prosecutors claim Durk instructed members of his entourage to fly from Chicago to Los Angeles in 2022 with plans to target rapper Quando Rondo. The tragic event resulted in the death of Quando’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, during a shooting at a gas station.
The indictment alleges that Durk directed his associates to:
- Fly to Los Angeles,
- Track and stalk Quando Rondo,
- Attempt the murder using firearms and equipment procured for the attack.
📝 Defense Pushes for Case Dismissal
Durk’s legal team is now challenging the charges. Attorney Drew Findling filed a motion calling the indictment vague and insufficient, arguing that it doesn’t provide the details needed for a fair trial.
Findling told AllHipHop:
“While the Indictment alleges that the co-conspirators carried out various acts ‘at the direction of’ Mr. Banks … it fails to give any specifics. When, where, how, and to whom did Mr. Banks give these alleged directions? To ensure the basic fairness of this trial, the defense is entitled to know.”
The motion also notes that the indictment lacks concrete evidence directly linking Durk to the crime, pointing out that there is no claim he physically participated in the shooting.
“What the Indictment fails to tell us are the very things the defense is entitled to know: the ‘operative facts’ underlying the government’s theories of Mr. Banks’ guilt,” Findling added.
📅 Upcoming Court Dates
A hearing on the motion is scheduled for November 18, where a judge will review Durk’s arguments for dismissal. Meanwhile, his trial—originally slated for August 2025—has been postponed to January 2026 due to the complexity of the case, the volume of evidence, and the number of individuals involved.
🔍 What’s Next
The motion could significantly impact the case, potentially narrowing the charges or even challenging the government’s ability to proceed. Durk’s legal team is expected to continue scrutinizing the prosecution’s evidence in the lead-up to trial.
Fans and industry insiders are closely watching, as the outcome could have lasting effects on the rapper’s career and public image.
