Lil Pazo Stands Firm on Performing at NRM Events, Says Music Is a Job Regardless of Political Affiliations
Lil Pazo, a popular Ugandan singer affiliated with the National Unity Platform (NUP), has defended his decision to perform at events organized by the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Despite his strong admiration for Bobi Wine, the leader of NUP, Lil Pazo made it clear that his music career is a business, and he will continue to perform wherever he is paid.
Recently, Lil Pazo performed at an event hosted by NRM Chief Mobilizer Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo in Mubende, which attracted criticism from his fans who are staunch supporters of NUP. Many questioned why he would perform for a party that opposes the political ideologies he publicly supports.
Music Is a Job, Not a Political Statement
During a TikTok live broadcast, Lil Pazo addressed the controversy, standing by his decision. He explained that, for him, music is a profession — a job that allows him to make a living, regardless of the political affiliations of the event organizers. “Music is a job, that’s what people have failed to realize. I will continue to perform as long as I am paid,” he said.
Lil Pazo went on to draw a parallel between music and other industries, stating that no shop in Uganda restricts its sales to a single political party. “Where in Uganda do you find shops that sell to one political party? Singing is the same thing,” he added, emphasizing that his focus is on his career and not on aligning himself with one particular political party.
A Hustler’s Mindset
Known for his laid-back approach to life and work, Lil Pazo reiterated that he is a hustler, always looking for opportunities to earn and grow his career. He firmly stated that no amount of criticism would stop him from doing what he loves and what helps him provide for himself and his family.
“I am a hustler, and I will not stop performing at any event as long as I am paid,” Lil Pazo declared, reinforcing that his priority is to make a living through music.
Supporters and Critics
While Lil Pazo’s fans in NUP circles have voiced their disappointment over his decision to perform at an NRM event, others have defended his right to work regardless of political context. The debate highlights the growing tension between artists and politics, with many musicians choosing to stay neutral or face backlash depending on their political leanings.
Lil Pazo’s stance raises important questions about the intersection of music and politics, particularly in Uganda, where political affiliations often come with significant public pressure. As he continues to build his career, Lil Pazo appears committed to putting his art first, even if it means facing criticism from some corners of his fanbase.
Looking Ahead: A Balanced Approach to Career and Politics
As Lil Pazo moves forward in his career, it’s clear that he intends to continue navigating the complex landscape of Ugandan politics and music. Whether or not his decision to perform at NRM events will affect his relationship with his NUP fans remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Lil Pazo’s commitment to his craft will not be swayed by political opinions.
