Lionel Richie had a frightening brush with danger this week when a suspected burglar tried to break into his Beverly Hills estate — while the music icon was home.
According to the Beverly Hills Police Department, officers rushed to Richie’s neighborhood just after midnight Friday following reports of a residential burglary in the 90210.
The suspect, identified as Michael John Bond, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. However, prosecutors have yet to officially file charges as the investigation continues.
Security System Saved the Day
Thankfully, the 75-year-old Grammy legend’s security alarm went off during the attempted break-in — sending the intruder running before anything was stolen.
While Richie himself was reportedly inside the mansion at the time, he wasn’t confronted directly. Investigators are now reviewing security footage and other evidence to piece together exactly what went down.
Celebrities Under Siege
Richie isn’t the only star facing danger at home this year. Hollywood’s elite have increasingly become targets of luxury home burglaries:
- Brad Pitt suffered a break-in earlier this summer, which reportedly pushed him to list his Los Angeles estate for sale.
- Teddi Mellencamp, Ashlee Simpson & Evan Ross, Elizabeth Chambers, and even Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto have all dealt with burglars attempting to ransack their multimillion-dollar homes.
The wave of break-ins has left many celebrities scrambling for better security, with private patrols and high-tech alarm systems becoming more common in upscale L.A. neighborhoods.

Fans React
On social media, fans flooded Richie’s pages with relief and support.
“So glad you’re safe, Lionel. Can’t imagine the terror of that happening while you’re home,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Even legends need better security in L.A. These thieves are getting bolder every day.”
What’s Next
As the District Attorney reviews the case, Richie has yet to speak publicly about the incident. Still, his near-miss serves as another reminder that even Beverly Hills mansions aren’t immune to crime.
✨ For now, fans are just thankful the “Hello” singer walked away unharmed — and that his alarm system may have saved him from something far worse.
