A tragic loss has struck the Loyola High School community after 18-year-old Braun Levi, a standout tennis player and senior student, was killed early Sunday morning when an alleged drunk driver struck him in Manhattan Beach, California.
According to the Manhattan Beach Police Department (MBPD), officers responded to a call at 12:46 AM about a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the 100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered Levi lying on the street beside the vehicle involved. He was immediately transported to a local trauma center, but sadly, despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
A Star On and Off the Court
Levi was a Loyola High School senior, known for his excellence both academically and athletically. He was a team captain and four-year varsity starter for the Loyola tennis team, having just secured his fourth consecutive league title on April 29.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Loyola High School paid tribute to Braun:
“Levi, 18, cemented himself as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in program history. His lovable personality, infectious smile, and boundless energy made him a beloved member of the Loyola community.”
In addition to his achievements in tennis, Levi also served on the Student Council and was the volleyball team manager, further showcasing his dedication to school life.
“He was a true Man for and With Others,” the school added. “We will miss him dearly. We love you, Braun. 𝐂𝟒𝐋 🤍🕊️.”

The news of Levi’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media. Former NFL quarterback Matt Leinart shared Braun’s photo on Instagram with the caption “RIP”, joining countless others in honoring the young athlete’s life.
Suspect Arrested for DUI
The driver in the fatal crash has been identified as 33-year-old Jenia Belt, who has been arrested on suspicion of DUI. Authorities say she may face additional charges related to Levi’s death as the investigation remains ongoing.
