Tragedy has struck the family of former Real Housewives of Orange County star Lydia McLaughlin. Her brother, Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop in Newport Beach, California.
TMZ reports that the incident occurred Thursday night as Stirling, 45, was riding a motorcycle along the Pacific Coast Highway — about 50 miles south of Los Angeles.
According to law enforcement sources, Stirling was pulled over by Newport Beach officers and allegedly became “uncooperative” during the encounter. At least one officer opened fire. Stirling was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. No officers were reported injured.
Independent Investigation Underway
The California Attorney General’s Office has launched an independent investigation into the fatal shooting to determine what led to the deadly use of force. Details surrounding the traffic stop and what transpired remain limited.
