Lyrica Anderson is spilling some major industry tea — and it involves Beyoncé, an 8X platinum hit, and a songwriting credit she says she was forced to give up.
In a newly surfaced clip from the Shirley’s Temple podcast, the singer-songwriter and Love & Hip Hop alum revealed that she allegedly wrote Beyoncé’s 2013 mega-hit “Drunk In Love” “from top to bottom” — but you won’t find her name anywhere in the credits.
“I Got Played”: Lyrica Breaks Her Silence
Lyrica opened up about the hard lesson she learned from the music industry’s notorious Rule No. 4080 — “record company people are shady.”
“I wrote the whole song, including that ‘loveeeee’ run in the chorus,” she claimed.
“They told me, ‘The song is already packed with writers. You can take a check now, or maybe not be on it at all.’”
With her back against the wall, she said she reluctantly chose to forfeit her official credit — a decision that still stings over a decade later.
A Star-Studded Track With One Name Missing
“Drunk In Love” was a monster success, featuring Beyoncé and Jay-Z trading sultry verses over a moody beat that went on to dominate charts, win a Grammy, and become an RIAA-certified 8X Platinum smash.
Official songwriting credits list Timbaland, Detail, SoolGotHits, and Dre Moon among others — but Lyrica? Nowhere to be seen.
“I learned a lot from that,” she added. “It was one of the biggest moments of my life, but I couldn’t really celebrate it the way I wanted.”
But She Did Get Credit for One Beyoncé Track
While Lyrica missed out on the glory of “Drunk In Love,” she did score official credit on another Beyoncé track — the brooding and emotional “Jealous,” from the same 2013 self-titled album.
“That one has my name on it, thank God,” she said with a laugh. “So at least I’m a part of that iconic era.”
Still, fans online are outraged that she may have been silenced or pushed aside on one of Beyoncé’s most recognizable anthems.
No Word from Bey (Yet)
So far, Beyoncé has not responded to Lyrica’s claims. She’s currently deep in Cowboy Carter mode — fresh off the release of her country-inspired album and busy dazzling fans on tour.
Beyoncé is known for working with a long list of talented collaborators — but this latest allegation is stirring up major debate in the fandom and songwriting community.
Fans React: “This Happens Way Too Often”
Social media lit up with responses once the podcast clip made the rounds. Many fans applauded Lyrica for speaking out, while others expressed disappointment over how often behind-the-scenes creators are pushed out of the spotlight.
💬 “This is why songwriters need better protections.”
💬 “She wrote one of the biggest songs ever and didn’t get credit? That’s wild.”
💬 “So many women write hits and get erased. This needs to change.”
Industry Politics or Standard Practice?
In the cutthroat world of music publishing, it’s not uncommon for artists — especially lesser-known writers — to be asked to sign away credits in exchange for flat fees or favors. Still, the practice remains controversial, especially when it affects Black women creatives who are often the backbone of today’s hits.
Lyrica’s confession adds yet another name to the growing list of unsung contributors who help build the soundtracks of our lives — only to be erased in the final draft.
Where Does Lyrica Go From Here?
Despite the setback, Lyrica has carved out a steady career for herself, from reality TV to solo music releases and working behind the scenes. And now that she’s finally telling her story, the world is taking notice.
“You live and you learn,” she said. “But I’m not staying silent anymore.”
