Rap icon and entrepreneur Master P delivered an inspiring keynote address at Grambling State University’s 2024 commencement ceremony, held on Saturday, December 14th, at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Addressing 365 graduates, the No Limit Records founder shared words of wisdom, resilience, and encouragement.
Master P on the Power of Education
“Education is so important, and I love that we can change, we can grow,” Master P told the graduates and their families. “Today is about change. It’s about being all you can be. I’ve been through everything you could think of. I’ve seen it. I’ve been there. And when I look into your eyes, I realize why we’re about to be on time.”
The hip-hop mogul, whose real name is Percy Miller, emphasized the significance of higher education, comparing it to other life paths some may have taken. “A lot of people have given four or five years to incarceration; y’all gave it to education,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.
Words of Wisdom for the Graduates
Master P encouraged the graduating class to persevere in the face of adversity and to value wisdom in their journey. Quoting Proverbs, he said, “Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme.”
He continued, “When you look into the mirror, just know you are your only competition. Whatever you can dream of, you can make it come true—just have a plan and a purpose. Do what you love, operate with integrity, and hold yourself accountable. Never abandon your dream, and always be brave.”
A Call to Change the World
In his closing remarks, Master P urged the graduates to embrace their futures with confidence. “The future is yours. It’s in your hands,” he said. “Now go show the world what Grambling State greatness looks like.”
The crowd erupted in cheers throughout his speech, reflecting the admiration and respect they held for the rap legend and entrepreneur.
Honoring a Trailblazer
Grambling State University recognized Master P’s groundbreaking achievements in music and business. “As the founder of No Limit Records, he revolutionized the music industry by creating a blueprint for independent success,” the university stated. “The label sold over 100 million records globally and helped launch and sustain the careers of music legends like Snoop Dogg, Mia X, and Silkk the Shocker.”
Master P’s inspiring message not only celebrated the achievements of the graduating class but also reinforced the values of perseverance, wisdom, and purpose as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
