When Master P takes on a new project, he doesn’t just play the game—he changes it. The legendary hip-hop mogul turned coach is now putting his stamp on the University of New Orleans basketball program, and he’s not stopping at Xs and Os.
As the school’s newly appointed President of Basketball Operations and assistant coach, Percy “Master P” Miller is on a mission to rebuild a struggling program. And what better way to kick off a new era than by bringing another Louisiana icon courtside?
Master P Reaches Out to Lil Wayne
Speaking exclusively with TMZ, Master P revealed he’s already contacted Lil Wayne’s management team with hopes of having the rapper perform when UNO tips off its season opener on November 8th.
“I’m bringing some huge talent,” P said. “I reached out to Lil Wayne’s management team, so we’re gonna see how that goes. But if it doesn’t work out [for the opener], we’ve got 11 more home games which we can bring him in.”
The thought of Weezy F. Baby performing in New Orleans for a college basketball crowd has already sent fans into a frenzy online.
J. Cole, NBA YoungBoy, Boosie & More Could Be Next
Lil Wayne isn’t the only name on Master P’s dream list. The coach revealed he’s also planning to hit up J. Cole, a rap star with strong basketball ties who has suited up in professional leagues overseas.
And then there’s the Louisiana lineup: NBA YoungBoy, Boosie, and other local talent from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and beyond. For Master P, UNO’s games could become a showcase not just for hoops, but for the deep music culture of Louisiana.
Beyond Entertainment: Building a Legacy
While the idea of bringing big names like Wayne or Cole to UNO is headline-grabbing, P insists his mission goes way deeper.
“My coach saved my life and helped change my life,” he explained. “I said I want to pay that back forward and help the next generation, help the kids where I grew up at to find the next P, find the next other successful person that comes from poverty, to let them know that you can make it, we believe in you.”
For Master P, it’s about more than wins and losses—it’s about creating opportunity, hope, and a new future for kids who might otherwise get overlooked.
“Education First”: Giving Back to the Next Generation
Master P isn’t just talking—he’s putting his money where his mouth is.
This season, the coach plans to personally pay for 4,000 middle school students to attend a UNO game, exposing them to both higher education and the inspiration of live sports.
“It’s all about education and the next generation,” P said. “If I could start reaching middle school students and preparing them to go to college, then they’ll further their education, and crime will go down, poverty will go down. We’ll be able to create these diamonds in the rough. They always say a diamond is dirty till you clean it up.”
Why This Matters
Master P’s vision for UNO goes beyond basketball:
- Recruitment Boost: What young athlete wouldn’t want to play for a program where Lil Wayne, J. Cole, or NBA YoungBoy could pop up courtside?
- Cultural Relevance: By blending hip-hop and hoops, P is making UNO not just a program, but a movement.
- Community Impact: From funding middle school field trips to championing education, his plan aims to lift an entire city.
The Bigger Picture
For Master P, UNO is about more than basketball. It’s about building bridges between sports, music, and education, and showing kids from New Orleans and beyond that success is possible.
As he put it: “We believe in you.”
If Lil Wayne hits the stage this November, UNO’s season won’t just start with a basketball game—it’ll start with a cultural moment.
