Tragedy struck the Memphis rap scene this weekend as FastCash CMoney (real name Cordney Smith) was killed in a violent shootout, TMZ Hip Hop has learned. The shocking death comes just one month before CMoney was set to complete federal probation, a milestone he had been anticipating after his legal troubles.
A History With the Law
Federal documents obtained by TMZ reveal that in 2019, CMoney and 17 other FastCash members were convicted of:
- Conspiracy to Commit Bank Fraud
- Conspiracy to Possess and Attempt to Possess with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
CMoney was found guilty of defrauding a bank of over $240,000 and participating in a scheme involving more than 100 kilos of marijuana. He served an 18-month prison sentence and had been released on probation, which was scheduled to officially end September 29, 2025.
The Fatal Shooting in Memphis
According to Memphis Police, officers responded early Sunday morning to reports of gunfire in the Macaulay Drive and Macaulay Cove area. Several homes were struck during the shootout, creating chaos in the neighborhood.
CMoney’s body was later found about a half-mile away at the intersection of Maritavia St. and Georgian Dr. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is active and ongoing, though no arrests have been made yet.
