Machine Gun Kelly just proved that not all opportunities are worth the price—especially when it comes to personal values.

The rapper-turned-actor is opening up about a major movie role he refused to take, and the reason why has fans clapping back with respect across the internet.

During a Thursday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, MGK—real name Colson Baker—got candid about a pivotal moment in his budding acting career. While chatting with McAfee and the crew outside the NFL Hall of Fame, MGK revealed he was almost cast in the hit movie Sinners… but walked away from the opportunity after being asked to use the N-word during the audition.

“I Couldn’t Say That Word—So I Walked Away”

MGK shared that he was set to audition for a villainous role in Sinners, a gritty drama that’s garnered attention for its intense performances and dark narrative. However, during the tryout process, producers asked him to deliver a line that included the racial slur—a request he immediately refused.

“I couldn’t bring myself to say it,” MGK said on air, clearly uncomfortable even recounting the moment.
“That’s just not something I could do—even for a movie.”

The moment earned audible praise and nods of approval from McAfee and his co-hosts, who applauded MGK’s moral stance in an industry that often pressures performers to do whatever it takes to land a role.

A Line He Refuses to Cross

For MGK, this wasn’t just about turning down a role—it was about standing firm in who he is and the values he holds, even in the high-stakes world of Hollywood casting.

And let’s be clear: this wasn’t some minor cameo. The role was reportedly a major villain in Sinners, a film already creating buzz thanks to its star-studded cast, including Michael B. Jordan and rising indie talent. If MGK had said yes, it could’ve been a game-changer for his acting career.

But instead of chasing clout, he chose character. And in an industry built on illusion, that’s rare.

His Message to Hollywood: “I’m Still Here”

Despite missing out on Sinners, MGK isn’t giving up on Hollywood. In fact, he used the interview to speak directly to producers and casting agents watching.

“I’m still here. I still want to act,” he said, staring straight into the camera with a grin.

It was a bold moment of vulnerability and ambition, showing that while MGK may not play every role, he’s still serious about growing his film portfolio—and doing it on his own terms.

Not His First Time on Screen

If you’re just now discovering MGK’s acting side, here’s a quick recap of his growing resume:

  • Tommy Lee in the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt (2019) – widely praised for his chaotic, on-point performance
  • Freddy in the action-thriller Project Power (2020) alongside Jamie Foxx
  • Lead role in One Way (2022), a crime flick that further proved he’s got real screen presence
  • Supporting parts in Bird Box, Midnight in the Switchgrass (with Megan Fox), and Taurus

He’s also been involved behind the scenes—producing and even writing on a few indie projects, giving him experience beyond just being in front of the lens.

The Fans Are Loud and Proud

Within minutes of the Pat McAfee Show airing, social media lit up with fans praising MGK for holding the line.

“Much respect to MGK for turning down a role that didn’t align with his morals,” one fan posted on X.
“He’s got way more integrity than half of Hollywood,” another wrote.

On Reddit, a top comment in a celebrity gossip thread simply read:

“Character > career. Respect.”

Even some longtime critics of MGK found themselves tipping their hat, admitting that walking away from a high-profile film isn’t an easy choice—especially in a town where opportunities like this don’t come often.

Music Is Still the Main Stage—for Now

While his film aspirations continue to grow, MGK isn’t abandoning music. In fact, his new album Lost Americana is dropping next week, and fans are expecting a return to his alt-rock sound.

The album title may be ironic, given how he just passed on one of Hollywood’s biggest “American cinema” moments—but it shows he’s still walking his own path, even when it’s the harder one.

“It’s called Lost Americana, but it might as well be called Lost Acting Opportunities,” McAfee joked during the segment—a line that had MGK laughing, but also nodding in agreement.

Hollywood, Are You Watching?

With his mix of raw talent, mainstream appeal, and now a public commitment to doing the right thing, MGK might just be what the film industry needs—a fresh face with a backbone.

If anything, this moment has only strengthened his appeal. Not every actor would’ve passed on that role. Not every artist would’ve turned that mic down.

But MGK did—and for that, he’s gaining more fans than ever.

📣 So, what do you think—Did MGK do the right thing? Should actors ever have to cross a moral line just to book a role? Sound off in the comments below!
