The mother of a man who fatally overdosed after allegedly being supplied drugs by “16 & Pregnant” alum Whitney Purvis is speaking out—expressing both relief and heartbreak in the wake of the former reality star’s arrest.
Lisa Harris, the grieving mother of John Mark Harris, tells TMZ she feels some sense of justice knowing Purvis is now off the streets and unable to harm anyone else.
“She did this, and as a result, my son is dead,” Lisa said candidly, not holding back her anger and devastation over her son’s tragic death.
💔 “I’m Glad Nobody Else Must Go Through This”
Lisa Harris says her family never personally knew Whitney and remains puzzled about the connection between her son and the former MTV star. However, she feels strongly that the arrest could prevent more families from enduring the same pain.
“I’m glad nobody else must go through this because of her actions,” Lisa told TMZ, adding that while justice won’t bring her son back, it offers a small measure of comfort.
Lisa also shared a rare moment of reflection, admitting that despite her anguish, she does feel sorry for Whitney—not because of her arrest but because of the life choices that led her down this destructive path.
“The whole thing is so heartbreaking. I feel sorry for her—not because she got arrested, but because her life got to a point of dealing drugs,” Lisa said.
🚨 Whitney Purvis’ Arrest: What We Know So Far
As The Pop Radar previously reported, Purvis was arrested on Monday in Georgia and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter after allegedly distributing Tranq—a dangerous cocktail of Fentanyl and Xylazine.
Authorities say the lethal mix caused John Mark Harris to suffer a toxic overdose, leading to his untimely death.
The former MTV star, now 32, also faces two additional charges for possession and intent to distribute controlled substances.
📺 From Reality TV Fame to Legal Tragedy
Purvis first gained national attention in 2009 on MTV’s “16 & Pregnant”, which chronicled her struggles as a teen mother. But life after reality TV has been tumultuous.
She’s been arrested multiple times over the years for lower-level offenses, including:
- Shoplifting a pregnancy test
- Destroying electronics during a domestic dispute
- Failing to pay child support
Her latest arrest, however, is by far the most serious—and comes just weeks after the heartbreaking loss of her teenage son Weston, who reportedly died of natural causes.
👀 The Bigger Picture: A Deadly Epidemic
The case also shines a spotlight on Tranq, a drug combination increasingly linked to fatal overdoses nationwide. Public health officials warn that the mix of Fentanyl and Xylazine is nearly impossible to reverse with traditional overdose treatments.
Lisa Harris, reflecting on her son’s death, pointed to the tragedy of young people being caught in such dangerous cycles.
“It’s so sad to see people get into these situations,” she added quietly.
