O.J. Simpson’s Estate Reacts to John Mulaney’s ‘SNL’ Joke—And Even Fires Back!

The late O.J. Simpson became the subject of a punchline during the “Saturday Night Live” 50th Anniversary special, courtesy of comedian John Mulaney—and the response from Simpson’s estate was nothing short of surprising.

Mulaney’s Joke Lands, Estate Executor Laughs Along

During the star-studded celebration, John Mulaney, alongside Steve Martin, took a jab at past SNL hosts with a dark joke that caught the audience off guard. Mulaney quipped, “894 people have hosted ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and it amazes me that only two of them have committed murder.”

He was referencing O.J. Simpson and Robert Blake—both of whom were accused of murder but later acquitted. The remark left many viewers doing a quick mental check before erupting in laughter.

Surprisingly, O.J.’s longtime attorney and current executor of his estate, Malcolm LaVergne, also found the joke amusing. Speaking to TMZ, LaVergne admitted that the punchline was clever and well-delivered, even joking that it made people pause before they got the joke.

Adding Alec Baldwin to the List?

While Mulaney singled out Simpson and Blake, LaVergne added his own twist to the conversation by pointing out Alec Baldwin’s involvement in the fatal “Rust” shooting incident.

Though Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter—not murder, as Simpson and Blake had been—LaVergne humorously suggested that perhaps hosting “SNL” gives one a pass when it comes to homicide accusations.

How Would O.J. Have Reacted?

Simpson, who passed away in April 2024, was not around to witness Mulaney’s joke firsthand, but according to LaVergne, “The Juice” wouldn’t have been fazed.

“He knew his place in society and didn’t fight against it, good or bad. He just lived his life: golf, friends (rich ones or Joe Blue Collar), good food, and hot young women. And then it was over. The end,” LaVergne commented.

Simpson’s Legacy Remains a Topic of Controversy

Despite his acquittal in the 1995 murder trial of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, O.J. Simpson remained a controversial figure until his death. While he was later found liable for the wrongful deaths in a civil trial, he continued to maintain his innocence throughout his life.

Mulaney’s joke and LaVergne’s lighthearted reaction show that, even in death, Simpson’s name continues to be a point of conversation, humor, and debate.

Final Thoughts

The “SNL” 50th Anniversary special was filled with nostalgia, humor, and memorable moments. But Mulaney’s jab at Simpson and Blake certainly stood out—proving once again that some topics, no matter how controversial, will always find their way into comedy.

This story is still making waves, so stay tuned for more reactions and fallout from the joke that had everyone talking.
