Red Banton Warns Lil Pazo to Steer Clear of Politics After NRM Gig Controversy

Veteran Ugandan singer Red Banton has issued a cautionary warning to fellow artist Lil Pazo, advising him to go slow on politics following his recent performance at a National Resistance Movement (NRM) event. The advice comes amid growing criticism from fans who align with the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

Lil Pazo’s NRM Performance Sparks Backlash

Last week, Lil Pazo entertained crowds at an event organized by NRM Chief Mobilizer Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo in Mubende. While the performance may have been just another gig for him, it stirred significant backlash among his supporters, particularly those affiliated with NUP, who accused him of politically aligning with the ruling party.

In response to the criticism, Lil Pazo defended his actions, asserting that he will continue to perform at any event regardless of political affiliations, as long as he is paid for his services. A video of him addressing the issue quickly made rounds on social media, further fueling debate about musicians’ involvement in Uganda’s political sphere.

Red Banton’s Caution: Focus on Music, Not Politics

During a TikTok live session, Red Banton weighed in on the controversy, urging Lil Pazo to focus on his music career rather than entangle himself in politics. Drawing from past experiences, Red Banton reminded Lil Pazo of a near-fatal incident in Gulu in 2021, where he found himself in danger due to political discussions.

“Lil Pazo, take it easy on politics. Leave politics alone and concentrate on music. You almost lost your life in Gulu because of politics.” – Red Banton

Red Banton’s advice comes at a time when Ugandan musicians frequently find themselves caught in the crossfire of political debates, with some using their platforms to champion political causes while others remain neutral.

Entertainment vs. Politics: The Risks for Ugandan Musicians

The intersection of music and politics in Uganda has historically been controversial and sometimes dangerous. Several artists, including Bobi Wine, Full Figure, and Catherine Kusasira, have faced either praise or backlash for their political stances. The pressure to pick sides has led to intense scrutiny, with artists like Lil Pazo now experiencing similar challenges.

Red Banton’s warning reflects the risks musicians face when they openly engage in political matters. While some have leveraged their influence to push for change, others have suffered setbacks, including career stagnation, loss of fans, or even physical threats.

    What’s Next for Lil Pazo?

Despite the controversy, Lil Pazo remains defiant, insisting that he will continue to perform wherever he is booked, regardless of the political implications. His recent remarks suggest that he prioritizes his career over political considerations, but whether this stance will affect his fan base and music career remains to be seen.

As the debate continues, industry insiders suggest that musicians should tread carefully when engaging in politically charged spaces. For now, all eyes are on Lil Pazo’s next move and whether he will heed Red Banton’s advice to focus solely on music.

Final Thoughts: Should Musicians Stay Out of Politics?

The debate over whether Ugandan artists should engage in politics is far from over. While some believe musicians have a role in shaping national discussions, others argue that staying neutral helps maintain a stable career. With Red Banton’s advice ringing in Lil Pazo’s ears, the question remains: Will he rethink his involvement in political events, or will he continue to prioritize his performances over political pressures?

Stay tuned for more updates on Uganda’s entertainment industry, celebrity news, and the evolving intersection of music and politics.
