Former NFL superstar Richard Sherman has officially put his DUI case behind him — but not without strict conditions.
On Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks legend appeared in a King County, Washington courtroom, where his 2024 arrest case was resolved through deferred prosecution.
That means Sherman won’t face jail time for now, but the deal comes with a five-year probation period and a long list of requirements he must follow to avoid serious consequences.
The Conditions of Sherman’s Deal
Prosecutors explained that for Sherman to qualify for deferred prosecution, he had to acknowledge his actions were tied to a substance use disorder and commit to two years of treatment.
He also had to admit that the police report contained enough evidence to support a guilty verdict if the case had gone to trial.
Sherman’s attorney, Jon Fox, told TMZ Sports the outcome represents the former Pro Bowler’s dedication to moving forward:
“The deferred prosecution represents Mr. Sherman’s commitment to working past any issues with alcohol or other issues that could have led to this incident,” Fox said. “On successful completion and strict compliance, Mr. Sherman will have earned the dismissal of the charges.”

What Deferred Prosecution Means
- Sherman will remain under court supervision for five years.
- He must complete his treatment program.
- He must avoid any new legal trouble.
If he checks all the boxes, the DUI charges will be dismissed. If not, he could face the full weight of the law.
The Arrest That Started It All
The case stems from the night of February 24, 2024, when police pulled Sherman over for allegedly driving 79 mph in a 60 zone.
According to officers, Sherman admitted to drinking two margaritas before driving. Police noted he had watery, bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath.
He refused a breathalyzer at the scene, but later blood test results showed a BAC of .11 — above Washington state’s legal limit of .08.
Sherman’s NFL Legacy Still Intact
Despite the high-profile legal battle, Sherman’s career off the field hasn’t slowed. The Super Bowl champion and three-time All-Pro continues to work as an NFL analyst for “Thursday Night Football.”
Fans have largely rallied behind Sherman, pointing to his transparency about the arrest and his willingness to accept responsibility.
What’s Next for Richard Sherman?
With the case behind him, Sherman now faces a different kind of challenge: completing his treatment program and staying on the right path for the next five years.
If he succeeds, the charges will disappear, protecting both his legacy and public image.
But one misstep could put Sherman right back in front of a judge.
