Snoop Dogg is set to release a deeply personal gospel album titled Altar Call on April 27, the birthday of his late mother, Beverly Tate. The new project serves as a tribute to her and is the sequel to his 2018 gospel album Bible Of Love. With 21 heartfelt tracks, Altar Call reflects Snoop’s ongoing journey of faith, healing, and love, blending personal moments of reflection with a powerful spiritual message.
Snoop shared with Okayplayer that the album was inspired by the profound impact his mother had on his life. “The spirit of my mother will forever live within me,” Snoop said. “This album is a reflection of what she has taught me—to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world. Just another chapter out of the Bible of Love.”
A Celebration of Faith and Legacy
Altar Call is described as a “heartfelt testimony” that explores themes of faith, grace, and community. The album is designed to remind listeners that no matter their life’s path, there is always room for grace. Featuring collaborations with some of the industry’s finest, Altar Call promises to be a powerful and uplifting experience for fans and newcomers alike.
The album spans 21 tracks, with highlights including a cover of Bill Withers’ timeless classic “Grandma’s Hands” by Jamie Foxx. Additionally, artists like Charlie Bereal, Jane Handcock, Jazze Pha, October London, Mali Music, Robert Glasper, and the Death Row Mass Choir make their debut on this project, adding to its rich musical tapestry.
John P. Kee’s Lead Single: “Mother I Miss You”
The album’s lead single, “Mother I Miss You,” written by renowned gospel artist John P. Kee, will be released on April 18. Kee, who has had a long-standing relationship with Snoop, expressed his admiration for the rapper’s enduring love for his mother. “One of the things I’ve admired about him over the years has been his love for his mother. He has always honored her in such a way that inspired those that knew him personally to do the same,” Kee said.
In reflecting on the writing process for the song, Kee explained, “The amazing thing about this writing assignment was that I wanted to do something for the family during their time of bereavement. Look at God! He made a way for me to honor her by writing this song that definitely represents her love, reverence, honor, and care for her family!”
The Legacy of Bible Of Love and Snoop’s Continued Spiritual Journey
Snoop Dogg’s Bible Of Love, released in 2018, was his first venture into gospel music, showcasing his evolving relationship with faith and spirituality. Altar Call picks up where that project left off, continuing Snoop’s exploration of gospel music while infusing it with his personal experiences and family connections. The album honors his mother’s teachings and the values she instilled in him, making it a deeply meaningful project for the rapper.
As Snoop prepares to release Altar Call, fans are eager to see how the album will continue to bridge the gap between Snoop’s early roots in hip-hop and his current path of spiritual growth. With its blend of heartfelt tributes, powerful collaborations, and Snoop’s signature style, Altar Call is shaping up to be a meaningful addition to his discography.
