Snoop Dogg, a music industry powerhouse with 30 million monthly Spotify listeners, has officially cut ties with the streaming giant. The iconic rapper, known for his unapologetic demeanor, made his stance clear in an interview with Billboard on Thursday: “I don’t f*** with Spotify anymore. I’m only on Tune.FM.” This announcement marks the beginning of a new chapter for Snoop, who has become the face of Tune.FM as the platform expands its reach into the Web3 market.

The Tune.FM Partnership: A New Era for Snoop Dogg’s Music

Snoop Dogg’s partnership with Tune.FM signifies a major shift for the artist and his fans. As part of the deal, Snoop will bring his entire music catalog to the platform, with his latest track Spaceship Party serving as the first exclusive release. This move highlights Snoop’s ambition to embrace the growing Web3 space, which allows for more direct connections between artists and their fans, as well as a new way to monetize music outside of traditional streaming platforms like Spotify.

Snoop’s frustration with Spotify has been no secret. In 2023, the rapper revealed his dissatisfaction with the streaming giant’s payout structure, particularly after receiving a mere $45,000 for a billion streams. This payout, which he considered an insult, led him to speak out about the unfair distribution of revenue, prompting his decision to sever ties with the platform.

The Controversial Crypto Ball Connection

The deal between Snoop and Tune.FM was forged following a meeting with the platform’s founder and CEO, Andrew Antar, at a controversial event—the Crypto Ball. The event, which took place ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration, stirred backlash due to Snoop’s performance at the event. Despite the controversy surrounding the event and his appearance, Snoop and Antar finalized their partnership shortly after, signaling a bold move into the emerging Web3 space.

While Snoop’s partnership with Tune.FM is gaining traction, questions remain about how this will affect his recent deal with Gamma Media. The deal with Tune.FM could result in exclusive content and new opportunities for Snoop Dogg, further cementing his position as a leading figure in both the music and tech worlds.

Spotify Responds to Snoop Dogg’s Claims

Spotify was quick to respond to Snoop Dogg’s claims regarding his payout. A spokesperson addressed Snoop’s assertion that he only received $45,000 for a billion streams, telling TMZ Hip Hop, “We can’t speak to Web3 endorsement deals, but $45K for a billion streams? A billion streams on Spotify generates millions for rights holders. It’s unfortunate that payments didn’t make it to Snoop.” The statement emphasized that Spotify remains committed to compensating artists fairly and hoped that Snoop, now in control of Death Row Records, would see a greater share of revenue from his catalog.

This response from Spotify highlights the tension between the artist and the streaming service. It also underscores the differences between traditional streaming models and newer platforms like Tune.FM, which offer more control and transparency for artists.

Snoop’s Shift: A New Path for Artists in the Streaming Era

Snoop Dogg’s move away from Spotify is just the latest example of artists seeking alternatives to traditional streaming platforms. With Tune.FM embracing Web3, it offers a model that allows for more direct interaction with fans, lower fees, and greater transparency around revenue distribution. For Snoop, this could be the beginning of a new era in his career, where he takes full control of his music and earnings.

As the music industry continues to evolve, Snoop’s decision to partner with Tune.FM could serve as a blueprint for other artists frustrated with streaming payouts. Whether or not this move will pay off in the long run remains to be seen, but for now, Snoop Dogg’s fans can expect more exclusive content on the Tune.FM platform, marking the start of a bold new chapter for the West Coast legend.
