Sophie Nyweide, known for her compassionate nature and her efforts to help others facing addiction, tragically lost her battle with her own struggles. Her longtime friend and former partner, Eden Herlihy, sat down for an emotional interview to remember Sophie’s kindness and the struggles she faced in her battle with addiction.
Eden first met Sophie at a clinic in Utah called Elevations, a treatment center for kids grappling with anxiety, depression, bullying, and various challenges. From the moment they met, Eden was struck by how kind and non-judgmental Sophie was, standing out from the other girls in the program. This empathetic nature followed Sophie throughout her life, as she always sought to help others who were facing similar issues, including drug addiction and bullying.
A Lifetime of Helping Others, Despite Personal Struggles
Herlihy shared that, despite Sophie’s own struggles with addiction, she remained dedicated to supporting others. Sophie often tried to assist those around her who were battling drug dependency, believing in their potential to recover. Eden, who also struggled with addiction, mentioned that they even used drugs together at times, but Sophie’s resilience made it hard to imagine her as someone who could fall victim to addiction in the way so many others did.
Eden reflected that she never imagined Sophie would be one of those who succumbed to the disease of addiction. She saw Sophie as a strong individual, and it never seemed like she had reached a point where she thought she couldn’t overcome her struggles.
A Life Cut Short
The heartbreaking truth is that Sophie Nyweide was found on a riverbank in Vermont, and was pronounced dead earlier this month. Although the cause of death remains under investigation, the Vermont medical examiner has yet to confirm whether Sophie’s death was due to an overdose. The man she was with at the time of her passing is not considered a suspect at this stage.
One tragic detail is that Sophie was pregnant when she passed, and Eden became emotional talking about the future Sophie could have had as a mother. At just 24 years old, Sophie’s life was cut short before she could fulfill her dreams of motherhood.
Sophie Nyweide’s passing is a stark reminder of the challenges those struggling with addiction face, as well as the strength it takes to support others through their own battles. RIP to a kind soul who tried to help those around her, even as she struggled with her own demons.
