SEOUL, – South Korea’s information privacy watchdog has announced plans to investigate DeepSeek regarding the handling of users’ personal information, an agency official confirmed on Friday.
Regulatory Scrutiny on DeepSeek
The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of South Korea will soon send a formal written request for details from the operators of the Chinese artificial intelligence model, seeking clarity on its data management practices.
The probe comes amid increasing international scrutiny, as regulatory authorities in France, Italy, Ireland, and other countries are also examining DeepSeek’s use of personal data. These investigations aim to ensure compliance with data protection laws and safeguard user privacy.
