SZA recently shared insights from her 10-day silent retreat in India, which she attended with her mother, Audrey. The transformative experience allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of patience, mindfulness, and inner peace.
Lessons Learned from Silence
Speaking with Essence at the 67th Grammy Awards this past weekend, SZA reflected on what she discovered during the retreat:
“Not everything has to be said,” she explained. “And waiting is really important. A lot of what we create for ourselves as far as drama and chaos is, thankfully, dependent on our willingness to go beyond that pain.”
She continued, “Even in the darkest and craziest depths of existence and life and trauma, and I feel like, right now, with the state of the country and everyone being in such peril and despair, it’s more important now than ever to be able to go within yourself and find that solitude.”
The Samyama Experience with Sadhguru
SZA participated in the “Samyama Experience”, a retreat led by Sadhguru at the Isha Foundation. She took to Instagram to express gratitude and share the significance of the event:
“For my Samyama experience. No phone, no mirrors, no eye contact for 8+ days (these pics are from before and after lol the program). For a fundamental yapper, I lost my mind 😭 ..then found it 🧘🏾♀️. Came back to so much overwhelming information between the state of the world and my personal/professional life. But somehow it’s all settling quietly and loudly at the same time.”
She also extended her thanks:
“Infinite thanks to @isha.foundation @sadhguru @chekothari and EVERY isha volunteer that took care of my mother and myself. My love for the process and this life is indescribable. Namaskaram.” 🙏🏾
