Taylor Lorenz is weighing in on the chilling manifesto allegedly penned by Luigi Mangione — and her take is raising eyebrows across social media.
The journalist and former Washington Post columnist appeared on TMZ to analyze the newly surfaced excerpts from Mangione’s writing, which shed light on his disturbing motivations behind the targeted killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
“He Tried to Minimize the Violence”
Lorenz points out that while the attack was undeniably calculated, the manifesto paints a surprising picture: Mangione appeared to deliberately avoid mass casualties.
“We knew this was a politically motivated killing from the beginning,” Lorenz said, “but he allegedly went out of his way to minimize harm. As twisted as it sounds, he could have bombed the headquarters — and chose not to.”
A Deeper Look Into the Manifesto
Lorenz says one chilling element of the document is Mangione’s reference to “normies” — everyday people — and his call for them to take radical action into their own hands.
She notes that Mangione allegedly hoped his actions would be “memorable,” aiming to make a statement about America’s healthcare system, which he described in the writings as “murderous” and “barbaric.”
Lorenz surprisingly echoed that critique, saying:
“We do have a barbaric healthcare system, and it’s time for the media and political leaders to start acknowledging that.”
A Political Undercurrent
In her commentary, Lorenz also brought up President Biden’s policies, stating that frustrations over the U.S. healthcare system have been brewing for years — and didn’t start with former President Trump or his so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
She argued that the core issue lies in the systemic failure of both parties to create a fair and humane healthcare model.
Individualism vs. Solidarity
As she wrapped up, Lorenz issued a clear warning against glorifying lone acts of violence — even if rooted in political outrage.
“Luigi chose individualism — but that’s not the way forward. Change only happens through collective action and solidarity, not isolated, violent acts.”
This chilling case continues to unfold, and Lorenz’s perspective adds a new layer of insight into the mind of a man whose alleged goal was not just murder — but a message.
