A police officer in Texas was caught on intense bodycam footage pleading desperately with a man to drop a knife before she was forced to open fire. The chilling encounter, which took place in February, has now been made public after the San Antonio Police Department released the footage on Saturday.
A High-Stakes Confrontation Unfolds
The harrowing video captures the moment an officer responded to a disturbing scene at a local park—a car had crashed into a lake, and the driver was making his way out of the submerged vehicle.
The suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Chase Deckard-Thomas, managed to exit the waterlogged car without assistance. However, as the officer approached him, she noticed he was armed with what appeared to be a knife tucked into his pocket.
Officer’s Desperate Pleas Ignored
In the bodycam footage, the officer initially checks on Deckard-Thomas’ condition, asking if he’s alright. But within moments, she realizes he is armed and immediately draws her gun, instructing him multiple times to drop the weapon.
Her tone quickly escalates as she screams at the top of her lungs, begging him to comply. “I don’t want to shoot you!” she yells repeatedly. However, Deckard-Thomas ignores her commands and continues advancing toward her.
The Moment of Impact
Despite her numerous warnings, Deckard-Thomas continues moving forward, leaving the officer with no choice but to fire her weapon. The suspect is hit and collapses to the ground as backup arrives at the scene.
Aftermath: Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Local reports confirm that Deckard-Thomas was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, he survived the shooting.
