Petition Gains Over 300K Signatures as Lanez Claims Unjust Sentence and Life-Threatening Conditions
Rapper Tory Lanez, currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, is pushing for a pardon from California Governor Gavin Newsom. The petition, posted on Lanez’s Instagram this week, comes just weeks after a violent stabbing incident behind bars that left the rapper wounded and facing renewed concerns for his safety.
“Now, Tory Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence under deeply contested circumstances. Alarmingly, he also recently survived an alleged attempt on his life while in custody.”
A Plea for Clemency
The online petition, which has already surpassed 300,000 signatures, claims that Lanez—real name Daystar Peterson—is a victim of injustice, pointing to prosecutorial misconduct, missing forensic evidence, and a politically influenced sentence. Supporters are now urging Governor Newsom to grant clemency, describing the punishment as both excessive and dangerous.
The petition closes with a resonant quote from Martin Luther King Jr.:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. This is one of those moments.”
Stabbing Incident Raises Urgent Concerns
Lanez’s push for clemency follows a brutal stabbing by fellow inmate Santino Cosio, who is already serving a life sentence. Cosio admitted to stabbing Lanez 14 times, telling TMZ he acted after hearing that Lanez had put a bounty on his head—a claim Lanez’s legal team has flatly denied.
“The recent attempt on his life was savage and ferocious,” said Lanez’s lawyers. “His continued confinement is both a miscarriage of justice and a threat to his safety. He must be released immediately.”
A Polarizing Case
Lanez’s conviction in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting sparked intense public debate, with some fans insisting he was wrongly convicted, while others pointed to overwhelming trial evidence supporting Megan’s account. The new petition has reignited these tensions—now fueled by real concerns for Lanez’s safety.
What’s Next?
Governor Gavin Newsom has not yet responded to the clemency petition. If he grants a pardon, it could mark a dramatic twist in a case that has divided the music world and social media alike.
