Detectives at Kira Road Police Station are actively investigating a suspected poisoning incident at Mezo Noir, a popular nightclub in Kampala, following the sudden collapse and subsequent death of a young woman identified as Martha Ahumuza Murari.
The Mysterious Collapse at Mezo Noir
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, March 20, 2025. Murari reportedly collapsed at around 3:30 a.m. in the manager’s office at Mezo Noir, a room that, notably, lacks CCTV surveillance.
Murari had been at the nightclub earlier that night, where she met her friend, Edward Mugabo, a cashier at the bar. The two spent time drinking together from around 2:00 a.m., before moving into the manager’s office just before the incident occurred.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
Shortly after collapsing, Mugabo alerted his brother, Joseph Kalenzi, and together, they rushed Murari to Kampala Hospital. Upon arrival, she was placed on life support, but despite efforts to stabilize her condition, she did not survive.
Detainment of Key Witnesses
As part of their ongoing criminal investigation, police have detained both Edward Mugabo and Joseph Kalenzi for questioning. The brothers remain in custody at Kira Road Police Station, where they are assisting detectives in piecing together the events leading up to Murari’s death. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of death, but the suspicion of poisoning has prompted an in-depth forensic examination.

The tragic loss of Martha Ahumuza Murari has left her family and friends devastated. Her father, Seth Murari, expressed deep sorrow and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified speculation regarding the circumstances of his daughter’s passing.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the loss of our beloved daughter, Ahumuza Martha. As of now, we ask the public to STOP speculating and circulating wrong information on social media as we put her to rest and let the security organs do their job of investigating.”
Final Farewell: Burial Details
Murari’s final journey will take place on Sunday, March 23, in Mbarara, where she will be laid to rest among her loved ones.
