Actor and singer Tyrese Gibson has publicly addressed his recent arrest on animal cruelty charges, defending his treatment of his dogs and explaining why he owns several large Cane Corsos.
In a video posted on social media on October 7, the Fast & Furious star spoke from his Atlanta home, insisting his decision to keep the dogs was motivated by personal safety concerns and harassment by stalkers—not for status or intimidation.
“Dogs as big as my Cane Corsos — I actually never wanted to get no Cane Corsos,” Gibson said. “I’ve just been dealing with stalkers.”
The 46-year-old entertainer emphasized that the dogs were meant to protect his family, not serve as aggressive animals.
Tyrese Details His History as a Dog Owner
Gibson, a self-described longtime and experienced dog owner, named several pets he’s cared for over the years:
- A Shar-Pei named Matrix
- An English Bulldog named King
- Two Pomeranians, Angel and Dream
He revealed that Dream, his miniature Pomeranian, remains in custody following his arrest.
“They haven’t released Dream. Free Dream. #FreeDream,” Gibson said, adding he needs to provide medication for the dog.
Why the Cane Corsos Are on His Property
The actor further explained that large dogs help deter unwanted visitors.
“When you have a family and some random person pulls up, you want some dogs to bark with some bass in it,” he said. “They go, ‘Oh, they got dogs — let’s leave this house alone.’”
Gibson framed his Cane Corsos as a safety measure in response to stalkers, insisting they are not weapons or symbols of wealth.
Arrest Details and Ongoing Investigation
Tyrese Gibson was arrested in early October in Georgia and faces multiple counts of animal cruelty after reports of neglect involving his Cane Corsos surfaced. Authorities have not released detailed findings from the investigation.
The Grammy-nominated artist described the controversy as a misunderstanding rather than evidence of abuse, explaining that his dogs are part of his effort to protect his home and family.
“I’ve been dealing with stalkers and just trying to protect my home,” he said.
Social Media Reaction
Fans and followers quickly rallied behind Gibson, using hashtags like #FreeDream, while others debated the necessity of large protective dogs in high-profile households.
The case has drawn national attention, highlighting the fine line between pet ownership and perceived neglect, especially for celebrities living under public scrutiny.
