Hoima City is rapidly transforming into a major sports hub as Turkish construction company SUMMA advances the development of Uganda’s second national stadium. The $129 million multi-sports complex, commissioned by the Ugandan government, is on track to meet its ambitious 18-month completion timeline, with visible progress achieved just six months after construction began in July 2024.

Inspection and Commendations

Officials from the National Council of Sports (NCS) and the Ministry of Works and Transport have expressed satisfaction with SUMMA’s efficiency and adherence to high standards. During the third inspection of the site, Joseph Oluga, Assistant General Secretary for Administration at NCS, praised the pace and quality of work, stating:
“This project is a testament to the government’s commitment to transforming sports infrastructure in Uganda and preparing Hoima City for its pivotal role in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).”
Preparing for AFCON 2027
Hoima City has been designated as Uganda’s second host city for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The stadium’s development is expected to:
- Elevate Hoima City’s profile as a major sports hub.
- Boost sports tourism and economic opportunities in the region.
- Complement the existing Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
