A tense domestic violence call in Texas spiraled into a dramatic shootout that left one police officer wounded and the suspect dead—and the entire incident was captured on body cam footage released by authorities.
Gunfire Erupts in Suburban El Paso
The El Paso Police Department released harrowing video from two officers who responded to a domestic disturbance on June 1 in a quiet residential area.
The body cam footage shows the officers cautiously approaching a house with their weapons drawn. As they take positions, the female officer calls out to the suspect, Salvador Valdiviezo, ordering him to show his hands.
Instead of complying, Valdiviezo—armed with a pistol—opens fire from behind a pickup truck parked in the driveway.

Officer Shot, Partner Returns Fire
A chaotic exchange of gunfire follows. As the officers attempt to take cover, the female cop is struck in the leg.
“I’m hit! I’m hit!” she screams as she collapses to the ground.
Her partner springs into action, aiming his service weapon at Valdiviezo and firing multiple shots. The suspect is seen running into the street before circling back toward the driveway, still exchanging gunfire.
The officer continues to return fire, ultimately hitting Valdiviezo several times. The suspect falls to the ground and is later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Investigation Underway
The Texas Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether the officers followed proper procedures during the deadly encounter.
Authorities say the wounded officer is expected to recover from her injuries.

A Community on Edge
The release of the footage has sparked conversations about the dangers police face responding to domestic violence calls—often among the most unpredictable and volatile situations in law enforcement.
Neighbors described hearing rapid gunfire and seeing a heavy police presence in the normally quiet neighborhood.
“It sounded like a war zone for a few minutes. It’s terrifying to think something like this could happen on our street,” one resident told local reporters.
The Bigger Picture
Police shootings remain a hot-button issue nationwide, with each incident drawing scrutiny about tactics, training, and community safety. This case is already being closely watched as investigators work to piece together exactly what went wrong—and what went right—during the firefight.
