There’s been a major break in the murder investigation of Patrick Houston Jr., the son of Memphis rap legend Project Pat, six months after his tragic death shocked the hip-hop community and South Memphis residents.
On July 15, U.S. Marshals confirmed they arrested Talia Jones in Minneapolis on charges related to Houston Jr.’s killing. Authorities say Jones resisted arrest during the operation and “did not go quietly.”
Her apprehension comes just weeks after Memphis police issued a warrant for her arrest on June 27, finally reigniting momentum in a case that had grown painfully quiet.
The Shocking Murder of Patrick Houston Jr.
Houston Jr., 26, was gunned down in broad daylight on January 10 near Ketchum Road and Long Street in the Imogene Heights neighborhood—not far from Charjean Park in South Memphis.
Police officers responding to the scene found him suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
His funeral was held on January 25 at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home. Family, friends, and fans gathered to mourn the young father and reflect on the devastating loss. He was later buried at Memphis Memory Gardens, where loved ones continue to visit his grave to pay their respects.
Was It a Setup?
While details about Jones’s involvement remain scarce, investigators suspect she may have played a key role in luring Houston Jr. to the location where he was ambushed.
“At this point, we’re still determining whether she acted alone or as part of a larger plot,” a law enforcement source told The Pop Radar.
Jones is currently being held in Minnesota as authorities work to extradite her to Memphis for further questioning.
Project Pat Retreats Amid Tragedy
Since the murder, Project Pat—a Memphis rap veteran and member of hip-hop royalty as the older brother of Juicy J—has kept a low profile.
The 50-year-old artist has been focusing on his nonprofit, the Go Foundation, which supports incarcerated individuals and advocates for prison outreach.
On social media, he has shared glimpses of his healing journey, often turning to faith to navigate his grief.
“Every trial brings a testimony. God’s plan is greater than our pain,” Pat wrote in a recent Instagram post.
Fans and Community React: “Justice Is Coming”
News of the arrest has sparked a wave of emotions across Memphis and the hip-hop world.
- “Rest in peace Patrick Jr. Prayers for Project Pat and the family ????????.”
- “She didn’t go quietly? That tells me she knew she was guilty.”
- “Hope they find everyone involved. This young king didn’t deserve this.”
For a city still mourning the deaths of local hip-hop figures like Young Dolph, Houston Jr.’s killing was yet another heartbreaking reminder of rising violence.
What’s Next?
Authorities have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation continues. The Memphis Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to the Houston family.
For now, Talia Jones’s arrest is a small step forward in what has been a long and painful journey toward justice.
