Young Thug is finally opening up about his relationship with Lil Wayne — and fans might be in for one of the biggest rap reunions of the decade.
The Slime Season hitmaker sat down with The Pivot Podcast following the release of his new album UY Scuti last Friday, revealing that the long-standing beef between him and Weezy has simmered down. Not only that — Thug says a joint project is on the table.
“He [Lil Wayne] ain’t on the internet,” Thug explained. “He tends to react to what he hears from people or what the fans say in person. They’d be like, ‘Hey, f*** Young Thug. That ni*** just wanna be you. He’s a b**h. He wore a dress.’ He was feeding off that typa sht.”
According to Thug, the noise from fans fueled the feud more than any personal issue between them. But now? He says things have shifted.
“Me and him got a way better relationship now. We got an album and everything. We just ain’t sat down and put the sh*t together and release the album together.”
Yes — you read that right. A Young Thug x Lil Wayne album could actually be coming.
Fans React: “Too Much History?”
Once clips of the interview started circulating on XXL’s X (Twitter) page, fans were quick to weigh in.
Some weren’t convinced the beef is really over. One person wrote:
“He conveniently left out the part where Thug got YSL dudes to shoot up Wayne’s tour bus.”
Another took a more cynical stance, suggesting the feud may have been exaggerated:
“All the beef and issues with all these rap artists was just kayfabe that went too far.”
The hip hop world has long speculated whether the pair’s conflict was authentic street tension or industry theatrics gone wrong.
A Look Back: From Barter 6 to Bad Blood
The Wayne-Thug saga traces back to the mid-2010s, when Young Thug controversially titled his debut commercial mixtape Barter 6 — a nod to Wayne’s iconic Tha Carter series.
At the time, Lil Wayne was gearing up for Tha Carter V, and many fans (and Wayne himself) saw Thug’s move as disrespectful rather than homage.
Things only got messier with the infamous 2015 tour bus shooting incident, where individuals tied to Thug’s YSL crew were accused of targeting Wayne’s vehicle. Though Thug was never convicted in connection, the tension between the two rappers became cemented in hip hop history.
Young Thug’s Comeback Era
Fast forward to 2025 — Young Thug is riding high on freedom and music. UY Scuti, his first project since being released amid the YSL RICO case, has already sparked buzz thanks to stacked features from Cardi B, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, Future, 21 Savage, Sexyy Red, T.I., Mariah the Scientist, and more.
Notably absent? Lil Wayne.
Still, Thug used his impromptu courthouse performance in Atlanta to signal that he’s back and hungrier than ever. Now, with the possibility of a Wayne collab album on the horizon, fans are watching closely to see if one of rap’s coldest beefs could turn into one of its hottest partnerships.
🔥 Would you stream a Young Thug x Lil Wayne collab album or do you think the beef is too deep to move past?
