Social media influencer and adventurer Andrew Cross, widely known as “Desert Drifter” on YouTube, has passed away after his family made the heartbreaking decision to withdraw life support.
The 36-year-old content creator, famous for documenting his off-road desert adventures, had been in a coma for over a month following a severe car accident. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office in Colorado confirmed his passing earlier this week.
A Difficult Decision
Andrew’s wife, Evelyn, spoke to TMZ, explaining that his injuries left him unable to regain consciousness. After weeks of prayers, consultations, and discussions, the family decided to honor his previously expressed wishes regarding quality of life. Life support was withdrawn on Monday.
Tragic Accident & Investigation
The accident occurred on January 31, when Andrew was rear-ended at high speed while waiting at a stoplight. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed brain surgery to control the severe bleeding. He remained in intensive care until his passing.
The driver responsible for the crash, Ragnar Nickolas Kristl, has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, careless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Support From the Community
Following the accident, Evelyn posted an emotional video on Andrew’s YouTube channel, asking fans for prayers and support. A GoFundMe page set up for medical expenses has since raised nearly $500,000.
