Legendary hip-hop collective Arrested Development has returned with their 16th studio album, Adult Contemporary Hip-Hop, and it’s as soulful, reflective, and revolutionary as the group itself.
The 20-track project, released on July 4, is dedicated to the late Twan Mack, a beloved Kali Tribe MC who tragically passed away in November 2024.
???? A Heartfelt Tribute to Twan Mack
In a touching statement to AllHipHop, frontman Speech opened up about the personal connection he shared with Twan Mack.
“Twan Mack was a genuine friend to me since high school—and that alone is rare,” Speech said. “He loved hip-hop with a pure and hungry heart. His sudden death shocked everyone who knew him. I couldn’t stop crying from the loss.”
Mack had long advocated for a new category in rap called “adult contemporary hip-hop”—a space for seasoned artists over 35 to shine without compromise. Speech said this album continues that mission.
“His biggest goal when he was alive was to create space for mature artists in hip-hop. I wanted to carry that vision forward for him.”

The album kicks off with “Let’s Get On With It,” where Speech immediately references Mack’s passing. From there, Adult Contemporary Hip-Hop dives into themes of legacy, wisdom, and cultural responsibility, offering a refreshing break from the superficiality dominating much of mainstream rap today.
“This project is for hip-hop fans craving substance, skill, and musicality. It’s a reminder of why Arrested Development mattered in the past—and why we still matter in 2025,” Speech added.

To celebrate the release, the group also unveiled a colorful video for “Pack It Out.” Filmed in a sun-drenched desert, the vibrant visuals match the group’s positive energy as Speech delivers boom-bap bars aimed at uplifting audiences:

Formed in Atlanta in 1988, Arrested Development broke barriers in the early ’90s by offering a positive, Afrocentric alternative to the gangsta rap dominating the charts. Their Grammy-winning debut, 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of…, gave us iconic singles like:
