Gunman kills 4, including police officer, in shooting at New York

A horrifying scene unfolded in New York City on Monday night when a 27-year-old man opened fire inside a Midtown skyscraper — killing four people, including a decorated NYPD officer and a pregnant woman — before dying by suicide in what authorities are calling the deadliest NYC shooting in 25 years.

The suspected gunman, Shane Tamura, reportedly drove across the country from his home in Las Vegas, passing through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and finally arriving in New Jersey on Monday afternoon.

Within hours, he would unleash a nightmare at 345 Park Avenue.

💥 The First Shot: “He Walked in Ready to Kill”

At around 6:28 PM, 911 calls flooded in from the 52nd Street skyscraper. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, surveillance footage captured Tamura calmly exiting a black BMW — M4-style assault rifle in hand — before entering the building and immediately opening fire in the lobby.

His first victim: Officer Didarul Islam, a respected NYPD officer and father of two with a third child on the way, who was on security duty that evening.

“He made the ultimate sacrifice,” Tisch said, visibly emotional. “He died a hero.”

😢 More Innocent Victims — Including a Pregnant Mother

As panic erupted inside the building, Tamura continued his rampage. He gunned down a female employee who tried to hide behind a marble pillar and a security guard taking cover behind a front desk.

Another man in the lobby was shot and survived. Speaking from his hospital bed, he described the scene as “a war zone.”

Tamura then entered an elevator. Shockingly, he paused to let a woman exit before riding solo to the 33rd floor, home to Rudin Management and other corporate offices. There, he opened fire again, killing one more person.

Then — in chilling finality — he walked calmly down the hallway and shot himself in the chest.

🧠 The Letter, the Disease, the Grudge: CTE & the NFL

While Tamura’s motive remains officially under investigation, CNN reports he left behind a suicide note found in his pocket.

The letter allegedly accuses the NFL of contributing to his mental decline and suggests he suffered from CTE — a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma and common in football players. He reportedly asked that his brain be studied.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that one employee of the league — headquartered inside the same building — was injured during the attack.

⚠️ Chaos, Carnage & Clues Left Behind

Law enforcement recovered a disturbing arsenal from Tamura’s black BMW:

  • A loaded revolver
  • A rifle case and high-capacity magazines
  • Multiple rounds of ammunition
  • A backpack full of prescribed meds
  • No explosives were found

NYPD confirmed Tamura had a “documented mental health history,” adding that all signs point to a pre-planned massacre.

🏢 A Corporate Hub Turned Kill Zone

The 45-story skyscraper, located at 345 Park Avenue, houses major corporations including:

  • Blackstone Group
  • KPMG (tax and audit giant)
  • Bank of America
  • NFL Headquarters
  • Rudin Management

In total, four people died, one is in critical condition, and four others sustained injuries while attempting to flee the barrage of bullets.

🕊️ A City’s Heartbreak: Honoring Officer Islam

New York is mourning the loss of Officer Didarul Islam, a highly respected member of the force remembered for his bravery, kindness, and deep commitment to protecting others.

“He didn’t hesitate,” Commissioner Tisch said. “He stepped into the line of fire and gave his life protecting innocent people.”

Vigils are already being planned across the city, and NYPD flags will fly at half-staff for the remainder of the week.

💔 The Deadliest NYC Mass Shooting in 25 Years

Monday’s bloodshed marks the most fatal mass shooting in New York City since 2000, according to law enforcement officials.
