Kendrick Lamar and Timothée Chalamet are two artists at the pinnacle of their respective fields, and they recently shared insights into their creative processes and artistic discipline.

In a conversation that aired on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on February 7, the “Not Like Us” rapper and A Complete Unknown star sat down to discuss the art of songwriting and acting. Their discussion offered a deep dive into how they refine their talents, push creative boundaries, and harness vulnerability in their work.

Kendrick Lamar on Songwriting and Self-Discovery

Lamar explained that he approaches songwriting with an open mind, always seeking inspiration and testing new ideas.

“I’m always locked in and always trying new things,” Kendrick said. “I have to keep the pen moving. It’s my form of sanity. And it also has given me the opportunity to learn myself, you know, find out who I am.”

Lamar elaborated on how he navigates emotions while writing, allowing himself to be vulnerable regardless of the song’s mood.

“When you’re writing, you got to sit and go through the emotions and be vulnerable about it, whether it’s a fun song or sad,” he shared. “Regardless of the subject and whether it is a happy or sad song.”

His introspective approach to songwriting allows him to uncover hidden aspects of himself.

“A lot of these records I write, man, a lot of stuff I probably would have never expressed or even known about myself if it wasn’t for an instrumental behind it,” Lamar added.

Timothée Chalamet on Acting and Overcoming Self-Consciousness

For Timothée Chalamet, acting presents its own challenges, especially when it comes to performing without an audience.

“The thing about acting is, if you don’t have an audience, it’s just a form of insanity. And you’re just, what are you doing?” Chalamet explained. “So I definitely try to warm up and then, you know, lose that self-consciousness when you finally get back out there. But that takes time.”

His remarks highlight the mental and emotional preparation actors must undergo before immersing themselves in a role. Like Lamar, Chalamet acknowledges that deep emotional work is an essential component of artistic excellence.

A Conversation Leading Up to Kendrick’s Super Bowl LIX Performance

The discussion between Lamar and Chalamet comes just days before Kendrick’s highly anticipated Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Fans have eagerly awaited confirmation of his setlist, and the Compton rapper has now officially confirmed that he will perform “Not Like Us”, one of the most impactful tracks of his career.

As the world gears up for one of the biggest sporting and entertainment events of the year, the exchange between these two creative powerhouses serves as a reminder of the passion and discipline required to excel in any artistic field.

With Lamar preparing to take center stage at Super Bowl LIX, and Chalamet promoting his role in A Complete Unknown, both artists continue to leave their mark on the world of music, film, and culture.
