The NFL is once again under fire for its handling of domestic violence allegations — and this time, one of the country’s most powerful women’s advocacy groups is demanding Commissioner Roger Goodell take action.
The National Organization for Women (NOW) is calling for the immediate suspension of Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, after his wife, Keeta Vaccaro, accused him of repeated violence during their 17-month marriage.
Despite the allegations, Hill is expected to suit up against the New England Patriots on Sunday — a move NOW president Kim Villanueva says is completely unacceptable.
“Tyreek Hill Should Not Be Playing”
Speaking with TMZ Sports, Villanueva didn’t hold back:
“Tyreek Hill should not be playing while these charges are being investigated. The NFL itself proudly proclaims that 47 percent of its audience is women, and women are watching to see where the league stands today.”
Villanueva directly challenged Goodell’s oft-repeated promise of a “zero-tolerance policy” toward domestic violence, asking whether the commissioner’s words hold any weight.
The Allegations Against Tyreek Hill
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Vaccaro detailed disturbing claims against the All-Pro wide receiver, alleging he became violent with her on multiple occasions throughout their marriage.
Hill has denied all accusations through his attorney, who insists the claims are false and damaging.
The NFL confirmed on Wednesday that it has opened an active investigation into the matter — but has not placed Hill on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, which would bar him from playing while the probe is ongoing.
NFL’s “Pattern of Enabling”
For Villanueva, the decision to let Hill take the field while the investigation is underway is just another example of the NFL putting talent and profits above women’s safety.
“The NFL doesn’t just have a Tyreek Hill problem — it still has a violence against women problem,” she said.
“How many times does the NFL and Roger Goodell need to learn the same lesson? They need to listen to women when it comes to domestic violence. They need to support survivors, not enable abusers.”
A Troubled History
This isn’t the first time Tyreek Hill’s name has been connected to troubling allegations.
- In 2014, he was arrested on charges of domestic assault involving his then-pregnant girlfriend, for which he later pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
- In 2019, he faced investigation over alleged child abuse, though he was not charged.
The repeated controversies around Hill — one of the NFL’s most electrifying players — are fueling criticism that the league’s disciplinary system protects stars at all costs.
A League Under Pressure
The NFL has faced years of backlash for its handling of domestic violence cases, most infamously in 2014 when video surfaced of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancée in a hotel elevator. That scandal forced the league to overhaul its personal conduct policy, but critics say little has changed in practice.
With women now making up nearly half of the NFL’s fanbase, the pressure on Goodell to act decisively has never been higher.
What Happens Next?
The league has not indicated whether it will move to suspend Hill during its investigation, but the calls for accountability are growing louder. If Goodell holds firm on allowing Hill to play, the NFL risks not only fan outrage but also a major credibility crisis.
For now, Hill remains active with the Dolphins — but if the allegations prove true, the fallout could be massive for both the team and the league.
