Swangz Avenue singer Veronica Lugya, popularly known as Vinka, has emphasized the urgent need to address rivalry in Uganda’s music industry, arguing that unnecessary competition has sometimes led to violent confrontations.
Speaking on the implementation of a copyright management system, Vinka acknowledged its importance but stressed that the industry faces deeper issues beyond copyright protection.
“Copyright is not the only challenge affecting the music industry. There is a need to tackle unnecessary beef and violence because people sometimes fight and injure one another unnecessarily,” she stated.
The talented singer noted that feuds among musicians often escalate into physical confrontations, creating a toxic environment that hinders the growth of the industry.
Support for the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF)
Despite these challenges, Vinka applauded Eddy Kenzo and the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) for their efforts in pushing for the copyright bill in parliament. She expressed hope that once implemented, the bill would provide musicians with an additional source of income and help regulate the industry more effectively.
