Ice-T is officially bringing Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola back in a bigger way.
The legendary rapper and actor revealed that after having a reduced role during Season 27 of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” he will return as a full-time cast member for Season 28, appearing in every episode of the long-running crime drama.
During a conversation with Towanda Robinson on “The TMZ Podcast,” Ice-T opened up about his recent schedule change, his longtime connection to the iconic NBC series, and why fans can expect to see much more of Fin in the upcoming season.
For viewers who have followed the show for decades, the news means one of SVU’s most recognizable detectives will once again be a consistent part of the team.
Ice-T Explains His Reduced Role
Ice-T explained that his limited appearances during Season 27 were not due to any conflict with the show.
Instead, he said the decision was connected to production needs, particularly the return of actress Kelli Giddish as fan-favorite character Amanda Rollins.
According to Ice-T, producers needed additional financial flexibility to bring Giddish back to the series, and his temporary reduction in episodes helped make that possible.
The actor said he understood the reasoning behind the move and supported the decision.
He explained that bringing Rollins back was something many people involved with the show wanted, and he had no issue stepping back temporarily.

A Break That Created New Opportunities
While Ice-T missed appearing in every episode, he said the lighter schedule also gave him more free time.
The extra availability allowed him to pursue other opportunities outside the series.
The rapper-turned-actor has built a career across multiple industries, including music, television, business, and entertainment ventures.
Rather than viewing the reduced role negatively, Ice-T said the situation worked out well and allowed him to focus on additional projects while supporting the show’s creative direction.
Fin Tutuola Remains a Fan Favorite
Ice-T first joined “Law & Order: SVU” during the show’s second season in 2000, becoming one of the longest-running cast members in the series’ history.
His portrayal of Detective Fin Tutuola has made him one of the most recognizable faces in the franchise.
Known for his calm presence, sharp instincts, and unique personality, Fin has become an essential part of the SVU squad alongside longtime star Mariska Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson.
After more than two decades on the show, Ice-T’s character remains a major connection between the series’ past and present.
Season 28 Brings Back a Familiar Face
With his full return confirmed, Ice-T says fans should expect to see Fin involved throughout the next chapter of the series.
He told viewers to tune in weekly as the SVU team continues investigating some of New York City’s most serious crimes.
The upcoming season will continue the legacy of one of television’s longest-running dramas, with Ice-T once again playing a central role.
For longtime fans, his return restores a familiar dynamic that has helped define the series for years.

Beyond ‘SVU’: Ice-T’s Expanding Career
Outside of acting, Ice-T continues to explore new projects.
During his conversation on “The TMZ Podcast,” he also discussed his wife Coco Austin’s social media presence and his new venture, OG Network.
The projects reflect the entertainer’s ability to maintain a presence across television, digital media, and entrepreneurship.
Even after decades in the spotlight, Ice-T continues to find new ways to connect with audiences.
Ice-T’s journey from pioneering rapper to one of television’s most recognizable detectives is one of entertainment’s most unusual career paths. After more than 25 years playing Fin Tutuola, his continued commitment to SVU shows how deeply the character has become connected to both his career and the show’s audience.
After a brief step back, Ice-T says Detective Fin Tutuola is returning full force for Law & Order: SVU Season 28—giving fans another reason to keep watching.
