Reginae Carter, daughter of rap icon Lil Wayne, has opened up about the reasons behind her breakup with rapper YFN Lucci, shedding light on the difficulties she faced in their relationship, especially while he was incarcerated.
In an emotional interview on Reality With The King with Carlos King, Carter, now 25, reflected on her early relationship with Lucci, which began when she was 19 years old. Despite the age gap—Lucci was 27 at the time with four children—Carter found herself drawn to the rapper’s lifestyle, which felt familiar given her upbringing in the music industry.
Love at First Sight: A Connection Rooted in Familiarity
“I don’t know—I was 19, and I always had a crush on him,” Carter admitted. “He reminded me of what I was used to.” She explained that Lucci’s charm and the attention he gave her made her feel special. “He courted me, gave me what I liked.” Given that Carter had grown up with a father deeply involved in the rap world, dating an artist felt like a natural fit. “I’m used to a rapper. My father is a rapper. It felt like home,” she said.
The Struggles Behind the Scenes: Infidelity and Heartbreak
Despite calling Lucci a “sweetheart,” Carter revealed that the relationship was far from perfect. As rumors of infidelity surfaced, women began reaching out to Carter with claims about Lucci’s behavior, forcing her to confront painful truths. When asked why she ultimately decided to end things, Carter didn’t hold back. “I’m saying don’t date these rappers. They’re no good,” she stated. “You have fun with them, but that’s it.”
A Lover Girl at Heart: Finding Closure After Heartache
Carter admitted that she struggled with adopting a casual mindset because of her deep emotions. “I’m such a lover girl,” she confessed. “If I like you, I’m going to love you. I’m going to fall in love.” The breaking point came when she learned of Lucci’s involvement with another woman, someone he is still with today. “I was young. I probably would have waited,” she shared. “But you see, he has a girlfriend now. She’s been around.”
She confirmed that Lucci had been seeing this woman throughout their relationship, from its early stages all the way until his 2021 arrest. Although the discovery of Lucci’s infidelity was painful, Carter emphasized that she had forgiven him. “Yes, it did hurt,” she admitted. “But I forgive him. At the end of the day, I was young. There are things she was willing to do that I wasn’t. That’s just what it is. You have to give and take.”
Moving On: No Hard Feelings
Despite the heartache, Carter expressed no lingering resentment toward her ex. “I’m happy for him,” she said, reflecting on Lucci’s recent release from prison. “I’m glad he’s out with his family. We move on.” The two have clearly moved forward with their lives, and Carter emphasized that she holds no ill will toward him.
Lucci, born Rayshawn Lamar Bennett, faced serious charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and gang-related activity. In January 2024, he took a plea deal, receiving a 20-year sentence with the possibility of parole. Though granted time served, Lucci remained behind bars through 2024.
Despite the tumultuous past, Reginae Carter’s words reflect maturity and resilience, showing that she has truly moved on from the pain and is embracing a positive future.
