J. Cole canceled his scheduled Sacramento performance Tuesday night following a fatal vehicle accident involving a member of his touring production crew.
The incident happened early Tuesday morning when a logistics truck transporting equipment for Cole’s current tour was involved in a crash near Yolo County, California.
Dreamville Records, the label founded by Cole, announced the cancellation on social media and expressed sorrow over the death. The label also extended its thoughts to the crew member’s family and loved ones.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a big-rig driver who drifted onto the right shoulder of the interstate before attempting to steer back onto the freeway.
The correction caused the truck to lose control and overturn. Sgt. David Barker of the California Highway Patrol said the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Authorities are examining whether driver distraction or fatigue may have played a role. The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, did not survive the crash.
The tragedy led Cole’s team to call off the planned show at Golden 1 Center, where the North Carolina rapper was expected to perform for what was anticipated to be a sold-out crowd.
For ticket holders, the cancellation also comes with a refund process. Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, while those who bought through third-party sellers or other outlets have been directed to contact their original point of purchase.
The venue and promoters have not announced whether the Sacramento performance will be rescheduled.
Cole has not issued a separate personal statement beyond the official communication from Dreamville Records.
The accident underscores the complex logistics behind major concert tours, where production crews and equipment travel between cities ahead of performances.
The remainder of Cole’s tour schedule is currently under review as his team deals with the aftermath of the fatal crash. For now, the Sacramento show is off, with the tragedy putting the focus firmly on the crew member who lost their life.
