Kevin Durant wants another shot at Olympic gold.
The basketball superstar is looking ahead to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where he hopes to represent Team USA and chase what would be his fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
In a recent interview with The Athletic, Durant reflected on what playing for his country has meant throughout his career — and why the experience continues to bring him back.
“It’s just fun, man,” Durant said. “It’s an incredible time.”
Durant pointed to the travel, competition and experiences that came with his previous Olympic appearances, saying basketball allowed him to visit places he never expected to see and changed his perspective both on the game and on life.
“I’ve been in places I’ve never even thought about being in if it wasn’t for the game,” he said. “That experience is one of the best, man. I encourage everybody to play for their country.”
Durant has already built one of the most decorated Olympic resumes in basketball history. He has played on four Olympic teams, and Team USA won gold each time.
The veteran forward said he is humbled by the recognition he has received but credited his longevity and consistency for giving him the opportunity to build that record.
“So many great players have played,” Durant said. “They probably didn’t play as long as me; that’s probably why I get that. I’ve been on four Olympic teams. We’ve won gold every time, so I’ve just been around. I show up.”
That mindset, he said, is central to his career.
“I think that’s what my career has been based upon, just showing up and letting the chips fall where they may,” Durant said.
Before another Olympic campaign becomes the priority, Durant has business to handle in the NBA.
During his 2025–26 season with the Houston Rockets, Durant averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists over 78 regular-season games, while shooting 52.0% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range.
He also earned his 16th career All-Star selection, according to the supplied source.
For Durant, the road to Los Angeles therefore begins well before the Olympic basketball tournament. His next NBA season comes first.
But the destination is already clear.
After four Olympic gold medals, Durant is looking at Los Angeles and another chance to suit up for Team USA — with a fifth gold medal potentially waiting at the end of the journey.
