Nelly and Ashanti are inviting fans back into their relationship and family life as Peacock unveils the trailer for Season 2 of Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together.
The new season follows the couple as they balance their music careers, parenting responsibilities and relationship while giving viewers a closer look at Ashanti’s efforts to regain control over her early music catalog.
One of the trailer’s central storylines features Ashanti in the studio rerecording songs from her 2002 self-titled debut album. The project originally arrived through Murder Inc. and Def Jam, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced major hits, including “Foolish,” “Happy” and “Baby.”
Now, the singer is revisiting the album with a focus on ownership.
“It’s so important to show women’s empowerment, and understanding the power of ownership is major,” Ashanti says in the nearly two-and-a-half-minute preview.
The rerecording project touches on a longstanding debate in the music industry: who controls an artist’s recordings and the rights associated with them. Ashanti did not own the original master recordings, while the late Murder Inc. cofounder Irv Gotti publicly claimed ownership of the masters and criticized her plans in 2021.

The trailer also shows Ashanti expressing gratitude for rapper Fat Joe’s support throughout the project. She previously celebrated the completed recordings with friends and family at an intimate listening event on June 17, according to the supplied report.
Nelly and Ashanti Balance Parenting and Careers
Away from the studio, the series follows Nelly and Ashanti as they juggle busy professional schedules while raising their son, Kareem, who is described in the supplied material as two years old.
The couple splits time between St. Louis and New York City, balancing parenting, touring and their relationship.
Nelly also reflects on the physical demands of performing, questioning how long he can continue maintaining his demanding schedule. An unexpected family loss adds another emotional dimension to the season, prompting the couple to reconsider their priorities and the importance of spending time with loved ones.
The trailer offers another glimpse into the couple’s life beyond music, including their reported attendance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding celebration during the summer.
When Does Season 2 Premiere?
Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together returns to Peacock on Thursday, November 19, with all eight episodes of the second season scheduled to premiere simultaneously.
Fans who missed the first season can also stream its episodes on the platform.
With Ashanti’s music ownership journey taking center stage alongside family milestones and the realities of maintaining two high-profile careers, the new season promises a more personal look at the couple’s life together.
For Ashanti, the rerecording storyline carries significance beyond revisiting familiar hits: it puts the question of creative control and ownership firmly in the spotlight.
