A shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, left 11 people wounded Saturday night, including six juveniles, as police continued searching for those responsible.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the victims included an 11-year-old child. The shooting happened after a college football game between the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions and the Florida A&M Rattlers, although investigators have not established whether the game itself played a role in the violence.
In an update provided the following morning, the Tallahassee Police Department reported that five victims had been released from the hospital, while six remained hospitalized. One of those still receiving treatment was in critical condition.
The latest update offered a clearer picture of the victims’ medical status as investigators worked to establish exactly what happened and identify the people responsible.
Revell said six of the 11 people who were shot were juveniles, while the other five were adults. At least one of the victims was a Florida A&M student.
There was also a 12th person injured during the incident. According to the police chief, a grandmother was hurt while fleeing the chaotic scene but was not shot.
The shooting unfolded following the football matchup at Bragg Memorial Stadium, bringing violence into the area around the university’s sporting event. However, police have not confirmed a definitive motive.
According to Revell, a fight involving two or three people may have triggered the gunfire. Investigators were still working to determine the circumstances surrounding that confrontation and whether it was connected to the football game.
That distinction remains important as authorities piece together the sequence of events. While the fight is a possible starting point for the investigation, police have not established that it was the sole cause of the shooting.
Detectives with the Tallahassee Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit are investigating the shooting and attempting to track down those responsible.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the information provided by police does not establish how many people were involved in the shooting or whether authorities have identified any suspects.
For now, the immediate priority is finding those responsible while accounting for the victims’ recovery. With six people initially reported to be still hospitalized in the latest update, the case remains an active investigation with key questions unanswered.
