Cardi B has expressed her deep sorrow following the tragic incident at Jet Set Nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where 58 people tragically lost their lives, and over 160 others were injured. The rapper took to her Bardi Gang Secret Society Community on Instagram to share her heartfelt reaction.
“I’m in literal tears scrolling down my timeline seeing my Dominican people being rescued, some with lives and some gone,” Cardi wrote, visibly shaken by the devastating news. She continued, “I’m sad seeing families crying desperately in pain, looking for loved ones… I feel like every Dominican around the world is in a big hora Santa, praying for survivors and praying for the ones that are gone to be in God’s Glory.”
Cardi also extended her condolences to the victims’ families, offering words of comfort: “For the people who lost a family or a friend, don’t have bad memories. They left this earth singing and dancing, and most likely happy and enjoying themselves, and that’s how the Lord will receive them.”
The rapper also took a moment to pay tribute to Rubby Pérez, the renowned Merengue singer, who tragically passed away in the collapse. Pérez was performing at the time of the incident, and Cardi expressed her sadness over his loss. “It’s so heartbreaking to see one of our iconic artists, Rubby Pérez, leave in such a tragic way. I’m glad though, our final memory of him was him sharing his beautiful voice with us… Sang one last time.”
The collapse occurred on the rooftop of the nightclub, a former movie theater, on Monday night. Authorities reported that at least 155 trips to the hospital were made, with ambulances carrying two to three patients at a time. The nightclub, which was over 50 years old, had experienced a fire a few years ago.
Octavio Dotel, a former MLB player who played for the Houston Astros from 2000 to 2004, and Merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was performing during the collapse, were both pronounced dead following the incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
