Byline: Feature by The Pop Radar Team
In the heart of Katwe, one of Uganda’s most culturally rich yet economically challenged neighborhoods, a young man was born on July 7, 1998, with a heart full of fire and a vision that stretched far beyond the dusty roads of Kampala. That man is Wamala Sipirian, known professionally today as Wamala J Cyprian — a digital content creator, editor, web developer, and entertainment visionary, poised to shape the future of African-led celebrity media.
At 26, Wamala stands at the edge of something extraordinary. He is the founder of The Pop Radar — an ambitious digital entertainment platform inspired by American giants like TMZ, The Shade Room, People, E! News, and Variety. But his story is not one of overnight success. It’s a tale of deep struggle, quiet resilience, and a dream too powerful to die.
The Dream Begins: From Katwe to the Stars
Growing up in Katwe, a neighborhood immortalized in Queen of Katwe, Wamala was no stranger to hardship. He didn’t come from wealth, fame, or media circles — but what he lacked in access, he made up for with vision and persistence.
“I always dreamed of one day walking the Hollywood Walk of Fame, not just as an actor or editor — but as someone who contributed to global pop culture,” Wamala says.
As a teenager, he idolized media icons like Harvey Levin of TMZ, Angelica Nwandu of The Shade Room, and moguls like Oprah Winfrey and Steve Harvey. Their voices shaped the celebrity narrative — and Wamala wanted in.
The Digital Hustle: Education Meets Passion
After excelling in school, Wamala earned a Bachelor of Business Computing from Makerere University Business School (2018–2022), where he blended his love for tech and media. The program trained him in digital marketing, web development, information systems, and communication — the very tools that would later shape his career.
While still in school, he began freelance web design and digital content work. He worked for startups like Mighty Coders, Nextel Systems, and Intellectsoft, where he honed his skills in WordPress, SEO, email marketing, and social media management.
E-Page One: The Rise and Painful Fall
In 2022, Wamala launched his first major platform: E-Page Entertainment (epageone.com). It was his passion project — a home for celebrity gossip, fashion news, and viral trends. E-Page One began attracting an audience, and it seemed like Wamala’s moment had come.
Then, disaster struck.
“The site was stolen and destroyed in 2024 by a local hosting company. Everything I had worked for was gone overnight.”
The emotional and financial blow was devastating. But Wamala, like all great dreamers, refused to let failure define him.
The Pop Radar: Rebirth with Grit
Armed with more knowledge and deeper scars, Wamala launched The Pop Radar — a smarter, sleeker entertainment platform focused on celebrity gossip, TV and movie culture, social media trends, and pop lifestyle.
Running on limited funds and balancing a small job at Lafab Solutions, Wamala built The Pop Radar brick by brick, handling everything from web development to content curation, marketing, and outreach. His site now garners thousands of daily visitors — with a goal of hitting 50,000+ per day.
“I may be struggling now, but every post, every line of code, every article is a step toward my dream.”
The African Hustle & Global Vision
In a digital world dominated by American and European platforms, Wamala wants to create a homegrown African voice that speaks to — and with — global pop culture.
Despite financial limitations, slow tech infrastructure, and a lack of local support, he continues pushing. He’s active on Google Ads, Amazon Affiliates, and MIGD, learning to monetize content. He’s also exploring Google Discover, graphic content creation tools like Canva and Fotor, to amplify The Pop Radar’s visibility.
Skills and Experience that Drive the Dream
Wamala is more than just a dreamer — he’s a doer with a rich resume:
- Web Development (WordPress expert, responsive design, site security)
- Digital Marketing (SEO, social media, Google Ads, email marketing)
- Content Writing & Editing (celebrity journalism, blog content, news curation)
- Customer Service & CRM (from his time at I&M Bank)
- Project Management (led teams, managed client sites, oversaw interns)
He’s also built multiple sites for churches, hotels, and farms — and even started a job board platform With His Friend Sam , Job Search Uganda, to help others find employment.
Still Dreaming — Still Rising
At times, Wamala feels the pressure of age, opportunity gaps, and industry gatekeeping. But his spirit remains unshaken.
“I still want to meet Oprah. Steve Harvey. Ellen. Maybe work with The Shade Room or TMZ. Who knows? The sky’s the limit.”
He’s looking for mentorship, partnership, collaboration, or support — anything that can help take The Pop Radar global.
