Iconic UK DJ Tim Westwood, known for his decades-long career at BBC Radio and Capital Xtra, is facing serious criminal allegations spanning more than 40 years. On Thursday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the Metropolitan Police Service to formally charge Westwood with 4 counts of rape, 9 counts of indecent assault, and 2 counts of sexual assault, connected to 7 different women.

    Allegations Span Decades

The accusations against Westwood cover incidents dating back to the 1980s:

    • 1983 – Indecent assault of a 17-year-old girl in Fulham, London.
    • 1986 – Sexual assault of a woman in her 20s in Vauxhall, London.
    • 1995–1996 – Sexual assault of the same woman when she was 17–18 in central London.
    • 2000–2001 – Rape and sexual assault of a 17–18-year-old in London.
    • 2010 – Rape and sexual assault of two women in their 20s in London and Stroud.
    • Additional sexual assault of a woman in her 20s in Finchley, London.

These allegations represent a wide span of alleged misconduct, with Westwood’s high-profile status placing extra attention on the case.

    Police Praise Victims’ Courage

Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy spoke publicly about the gravity of the situation, saying,

“It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature. The women who have done so have put their trust in us, and we continue to provide them with all available support.”

Furphy added that the investigation remains active and encouraged anyone with further information to contact authorities.

Court Appearance and Social Media Silence

Westwood is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 10. In the wake of the charges, the DJ has deleted all of his social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), removing himself from public engagement as the case moves forward.

    A Career in the Spotlight

Tim Westwood has been a defining figure in UK radio for decades, pioneering hip-hop and urban music on mainstream platforms. His career at BBC Radio 1, Capital Xtra, and other stations has earned him a legendary status among fans—but these charges cast a long shadow over his legacy.

    Next Steps

The upcoming court proceedings will be closely watched, given the high-profile nature of the allegations and Westwood’s influence in the music and radio industry. Support and counseling remain available for alleged victims, and police continue to gather information as the investigation progresses.
