Disney’s live-action “Snow White“ is finally hitting theaters, but instead of celebration, the controversy surrounding the film continues to escalate. Actress Ali Chapman is adding her voice to the discussion, saying the studio missed a huge opportunity to represent the Little People community.
7 Dwarfs, 7 Missed Opportunities
Ali, known for her role in Freakshow, was spotted at Craig’s in L.A. on Tuesday alongside her husband Matt McArthy and Jeff Beacher, owner of Beacher’s Madhouse. Speaking to TMZ, she expressed disappointment in Disney’s decision to replace the seven dwarfs with CGI characters, calling it a missed chance for real actors like herself.
“The whole point of the original movie was the 7 dwarfs,” Ali stated, emphasizing how the studio had the perfect moment to cast actors from the Little People community—but instead, they shut them out.
The Push for Representation
Ali went on to say that major studios shouldn’t take away roles from real actors in favor of CGI. However, despite her criticism, she doesn’t want audiences to boycott the film. Instead, she encourages people to watch it, stressing that visibility still matters.
Her stance aligns with that of Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen in the film. Gadot recently told TMZ that fans should give the movie a chance, despite the backlash.
A Film Surrounded by Controversy
Disney’s Snow White has faced criticism over multiple issues, from casting decisions to deviations from the original 1937 classic. While some are eager to see the new take on the fairy tale, others feel the film strays too far from its roots.
Will Disney’s bold changes pay off, or will backlash overshadow its release? Only time will tell.
