Alijah Arenas, the 18-year-old high school basketball sensation, received an overwhelming amount of love and support upon his return from the hospital after a terrifying Cybertruck crash last week. His family, led by his ex-NBA star father, Gilbert Arenas, arranged a heartwarming surprise for him as he continues to recover at home.
The touching moment was shared by Gilbert on his social media, showing Alijah walking into a room filled with balloons, flowers, and gifts, with a heartfelt message that read, “Welcome home, Alijah.” It’s the first time fans have seen the rising USC recruit since the accident, and despite the frightening ordeal, Alijah looked remarkably well.
Gilbert Arenas took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the first responders who helped pull his son from the wreckage of the fiery Tesla. “My son can’t wait to meet you guys,” he said, thanking everyone for their continued support. “Truly grateful for the prayers, love, and support during his healing. Much love.”
Though Alijah is still in recovery, Gilbert couldn’t resist bringing some humor to the situation. He shared a funny anecdote from his son’s past, recalling how Alijah had jokingly told his friends, “If I’m ever in a coma, don’t bring flowers. Bust in rapping ‘I might swerve, bend that corner, woah’ by Gelo like it’s the national anthem.” The reference to LiAngelo Ball’s popular song provided a lighthearted moment after the crash, which left Alijah in an induced coma due to smoke inhalation.
Thankfully, despite the harrowing accident, Alijah suffered no major injuries and is on the road to recovery. Gilbert wrapped up his message with humor, acknowledging the strange timing of the lyrics in light of the accident. “Nothing screams perfect timing like saying ‘Swerve on that corner, woah’ … right after you actually did. Into a tree. Into a hospital stay,” he said with a laugh.
As Alijah heals, his family’s love and support, as well as the well-wishes from fans, continue to pour in. The young athlete’s recovery is a testament to his strength and resilience, and fans are eager to see him back on the court soon.
