Beyoncé cemented her legacy at the 2025 Grammy Awards, making history once again as “Cowboy Carter” earned her the coveted Album of the Year trophy—her first-ever win in the category. The victory also extended her record as the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, now boasting 35 trophies.
Onstage with her 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, while Jay-Z watched from the audience, Beyoncé dedicated her win to pioneering Black country artist Linda Martell and expressed gratitude to the Recording Academy, her collaborators, and the songwriters and producers who helped bring the groundbreaking project to life.
“Thank You, Rumi!”: Beyoncé’s Heartfelt Shoutout to Her Daughter
After stepping offstage, Beyoncé realized she had forgotten to mention an important name—her youngest daughter, Rumi Carter.
“She was watching,” Beyoncé told Entertainment Tonight with a laugh. “I forgot to thank her, so I can thank her now. Thank you, Rumi!”
The 7-year-old twin to Sir Carter is featured on “Protector”, a song from “Cowboy Carter”, where she shares an emotional spoken-word moment with her mother.
Beyoncé Becomes the First Black Woman to Win Best Country Album
Earlier in the night, Beyoncé broke another barrier, becoming the first Black woman to win Best Country Album. Accepting the award, she reflected on the challenges she faced venturing into the country genre.
“I’d like to thank all the incredible country artists who embraced this album,” she said. “We worked so hard. I think sometimes ‘genre’ is a cold word used to keep artists in their place. I just want to encourage people to follow their passion and stay persistent.”
She ended her speech by thanking her family and the team who helped bring “Cowboy Carter” to life.
Jay-Z’s Past Criticism of the Grammys Proves True
Beyoncé’s long-overdue Album of the Year win comes just one year after Jay-Z publicly called out the Recording Academy for continuously snubbing her in the category.
While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammys, Jay-Z famously addressed the Academy’s failure to recognize Beyoncé’s albums as the best of the year:
“We want y’all to get it right—at least close to right. I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and had never won Album of the Year.”
He let the awkward silence linger before adding:
“The most Grammys. Never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work.”
This year, the Academy finally got it right—and Beyoncé’s victory marks a monumental moment for both her career and the country music genre.
Beyoncé’s Grammy Legacy: 25 Years in the Making
With Cowboy Carter’s triumph, Beyoncé has now solidified herself as an artist who transcends genres and breaks barriers.
“It’s surreal,” Beyoncé reflected. “Twenty-five years of working hard, growing, and trying to open doors. I’m honored. I’m also happy my daughter got to see that.”
And while Blue Ivy may now be taller than her, as Beyoncé jokingly pointed out, it’s clear that the next generation of Carters is watching closely—ready to carry the legacy forward. 🎶🏆🔥
