Dramatic Abduction Unfolds in Broad Daylight

According to eyewitness accounts, Ssentamu was driving away from the party headquarters when he was intercepted near Kubiri. A group of gun-wielding men, dressed in civilian attire, forcefully pulled him out of his vehicle and bundled him into a drone (a commonly used term for unmarked security vans associated with abductions in Uganda). The men sped off to an unknown destination, leaving bystanders in shock and fear.

NUP Responds: Legal Team in Action

The National Unity Platform has swiftly responded to the alarming incident, with party leaders confirming that their legal team is actively working to trace Ssentamu’s whereabouts.

“Our comrade Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu has been abducted in broad daylight by unknown assailants. We had just concluded a meeting, and as he left, he was waylaid, forcefully removed from his car, and taken away in a drone. This is a clear indication of the regime’s increasing panic as we continue to demand the release of all political prisoners,” a party representative stated.

Mounting Political Tensions in Uganda

This abduction comes amid growing concerns over the government’s crackdown on opposition figures. Over the years, multiple opposition leaders and activists have reported cases of enforced disappearances, illegal detentions, and intimidation.

Ssentamu’s abduction follows a pattern that has been observed in Uganda’s political sphere, where security operatives, often in plain clothes, are accused of carrying out arrests without warrants or due process. Such incidents have drawn condemnation from human rights organizations, both locally and internationally, calling for the government to respect the rule of law and political freedoms.

Opposition Leaders Call for Immediate Release

NUP leaders, including party president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, have condemned the act, demanding Ssentamu’s immediate and unconditional release.

“This blatant act of abduction is a direct attack on democracy and the fundamental rights of Ugandans. We demand that the regime immediately reveals his whereabouts and ensures his safety,” Bobi Wine stated in an urgent appeal to the public and international community.

Public Outrage and Online Reactions

The news of Ssentamu’s abduction has quickly gained traction on social media, with Ugandans and political observers expressing their outrage. The hashtag #FreeNyanziSsentamu is trending on various platforms as activists, journalists, and citizens call for transparency and justice.

Many users have drawn parallels between this incident and previous cases of alleged government-orchestrated abductions, warning that such actions only deepen political instability and mistrust in the system.

International Community Watching Closely

Uganda’s handling of opposition figures has repeatedly come under scrutiny from international bodies, including the United Nations, Amnesty International, and the European Union. The latest incident is expected to attract more pressure on the government to account for its actions and respect fundamental human rights.

What Happens Next?

As Ssentamu’s whereabouts remain unknown, pressure is mounting on authorities to provide answers. The NUP legal team continues to explore all legal avenues to ensure his safety and possible release.

This is a developing story, and we will continue to update as more details emerge. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this breaking news.
