Michael Arkinson, the rookie cop from Sag Harbor Police Department who made headlines last summer for arresting Justin Timberlake on suspicion of DWI, has now earned his own recognition—Officer of the Year!

In a recent ceremony, Chief Rob Drake presented Arkinson with the award, applauding the young officer for making an “immediate impact” within both the department and the local community. Arkinson’s efforts were highlighted as he led the department in arrests and summonses—with his most famous stop being that of Timberlake last June.

The arrest, which turned into something of a viral sensation, gained widespread attention after it was reported that Arkinson had no idea who Justin Timberlake was when he pulled him over. This led to viral jokes online, including the popular line “This is going to ruin the tour,” making Arkinson an internet meme of sorts.

Following the incident, Justin Timberlake entered a plea deal for the traffic ticket related to the DWI stop, and the matter was quickly closed by September.
